Scholarship ProgramThe Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Edith Cowan University (ECU) jointly offer scholarships to students from Pakistan to undertake the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at ECU.

Successful candidates will receive a scholarship which includes:• Living allowance of AUD $19,000 per annum from HEC, and a top-up of

$8,000* per annum from ECU• Return airfare from Pakistan to Perth, Australia from HEC• All tuition and research fees from ECU• Overseas Student Health Cover by HEC for the duration of the course• Opportunities for teaching assistants and research assistant positions• Access to research and writing consultants

Eligibility CriteriaTo apply for admission to ECU and be awarded a scholarship you must:

• Be nominated by HEC• Be supported by the relevant

School at ECU and be assigned a supervisory team

• Fulfil academic entry requirements set by ECU, including English language proficiency

ECU will contact selected students to apply for admission to the PhD program. All selected candidates who meet all requirements will be awarded the scholarship.

* Total stipend will be to the value of the annual Australian Postgraduate Award. Currently $27,000 per annum in 2016.

Unique PhD program at ECU The Doctor of Philosophy (Integrated) is a four year degree with a foundation year of research preparation followed by a three year research program.

The one year of coursework subjects include generic research training and discipline-specific units. The coursework component provides students with strategies for a successful research journey, appropriate research design and methodology, timely completion, and effective writing and

communication skills. At the end of the first year, students who choose to exit may qualify for a Master of Research Practice.

This course will facilitate independent thought, and will require students to conceive, plan and conduct a piece of research, taking into consideration the logistical and practical aspects of conducting applied research.More information on this program can be found on http://www.ecu.edu.au/

Process for ApplicationPart I: Nomination

• HEC will nominate candidates for consideration by ECU

Part II: ECU Selection and application• ECU will invite candidates to put in an application for admission• ECU will issue a formal offer of acceptance to candidates who meet all

requirements• ECU will provide a list of successful candidates and a copy of the offer letter

to HEC

Successful candidates with full offers can begin their application for their studentvisa. At all times students registered at ECU must comply with all requirements for the student visa.
