Hebrews 5:5-10 (NKJV)

5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him: “You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.”6 As He also says in another place: “You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek”;7 who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications,

with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, 8 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. 9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, 10 called by God as High Priest “according to the order of Melchizedek,”

Do You Know My Jesus?

Page 4: Hebrews 5:5- 10 (NKJV)

Do You Know My Jesus? We are continuing our series this morning on “Do You Know My Jesus?”

The idea is to get to know the Jesus of the Bible

Many today claim characteristics of the Christ that do not paint an accurate picture of who He is

Page 5: Hebrews 5:5- 10 (NKJV)

Do You Know My Jesus? We began by looking at Jesus in creation as well as Jesus from the Old Testament

Today we continue our study of Jesus from the Old Testament

When we think of Jesus, it’s normally of the Jesus we read about in the NT

Page 6: Hebrews 5:5- 10 (NKJV)

Do You Know My Jesus? However, if we look diligently, we can certainly see Jesus in the OT as well

Last lesson we looked at Christ pointing to the OT to speak of Himself

We looked at what are called Christophanies, or appearances of Christ in the OT

Page 7: Hebrews 5:5- 10 (NKJV)

TypologyToday we consider something known as typology

Typology is the study of types or prefigurative symbols

The typology that we are referring to basically means that Jesus was symbolized by things in the OT

Page 8: Hebrews 5:5- 10 (NKJV)

TypologyThese can consist of people, things, or events

When you notice them, it opens your eyes to seeing Christ more and more in the OT

Here are some of them and how they typify Christ…
