REGULAR COLLECTION: $ 15,515.70 ENHANCEMENT FUND: $ 2,370.45

“If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” ~(Luke 9:23)

We are not very good at “denying ourselves” in our society. Our current economic situation is evidence of what happens when people think they can have everything they want. Jesus calls us to set our own personal “wants” aside so that we have the resources to follow Him instead.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT: “Forming deeply committed Catholics living the Gospel.”

MASS INTENTIONS & CALENDAR FOR WEEK OF JUNE 23RD - 30TH

(Special Intentions)

A Statement by the Bishops of Florida in Support of Immigration ReformJune 5, 2013

“ When an alien resides with you in you land, do not molest him. You shall treat the alien who resides with you nodifferently than the natives born among you; have the same love for him as for yourself; for you too were once

aliens in the land of Egypt. I, the Lord am your God.” Leviticus 19:33-34

We, the Catholic Bishops of Florida, are deeply concerned about out nation’s immigration system. We lament theloss of the many years our migrant brothers and sisters have waited for changes that would enable them to seeklegal protection and support their families. While the Catholic Church acknowledges the right of countries to control their borders and enforce immigrationlaws, the common good is not served when the human dignity and rights of individuals are violated. The Churchteaches, the more prosperous nations are obliged, to welcome the foreigner in search of the security and the meansof livelihood which he cannot find in his country of origin. Public authorities should see to it that the natural rightis respected that places a guest under the protection of those who receive him (Catechism of the Catholic Church,2241).The Florida economy is dependent upon manual labor for agriculture, construction and the service industry. People who seek to escape persecution and economic disparity in their country of origin have come to America forthis employment. While the need for labor exists, the limited numbers of worker visas to bring labor into Americaare insufficient and have created a market for undocumented workers who may face abuses by unscrupulous employers, human smugglers and human traffickers.Congress has the best opportunity in almost 30 years to pass immigration reform. This is a historic moment in ourcountry. As Americans, we cannot let this moment pass. As a moral matter, our country must not accept the toiland taxes of these children of God without offering them the protections of our laws, which they so willingly seek.We urge you to join with us in asking the 113th Congress to support immigration reform that:

Provides a path to citizenship for undocumented persons in the country;Preserves family unity by reducing backlogs and waiting times for family reunification;Protects vulnerable populations including refugees, asylum seekers and unaccompanied children;Addresses the root causes of migration, such as persecution and economic disparity.

Now is the time to act. We, the Catholic Bishops of Florida, ask our parishioners to contact their members of Congress and two United States Senators to ask them to support immigration reform. Messages may be sent electronically by visiting www.flaccb.org/lawmakers.php

Wish List: Jelly, canned vegetables, canned fruit, mac and cheese, tuna, shampoo, and toilet paper.

Thank you! My Dear Friends,

With the visit of Bishop Noonan last Saturday for confirmation at the Mission, he confirmed to me that my journey with you will terminate at the beginning of July. At this time I do not have my next destination due to the fact that I will be going away on Sabbatical. Bishop Noonan already has a new Priest.

I’d like to thank each and every one of you; deacons, members of the staff, front desk volunteers, Fr. Tom Connery and all of the parishioners for your kindness and dedication. I will keep in touch can I will inform you where I am after my two month sabbatical.

Keep me in your prayers, I will ask our God to continue blessing you. ~Fr. Hilario Rivera

GALATIANS: Set Free to Live - by Jeff Cavins and Gayle Somers

Paul’s letter to the Galatians speaks directly to the heart ofChristians and addresses the most important question we can ask:“What must we do to be saved?” This fascinating letter reveals the

merciful love that God the Father has for us, his children. It speaks of the extraordinary gift of salvation that Jesus has won

for us, and it explains how we can unite ourselves to Christ’sredeeming sacrifice through faith and love. Galatians is a study that

will reignite your love for God as you learn of theastonishing love God has for you.

Your Group Will: Discover how Christ fulfilled the Law and set us free to live in the Spirit. Learn what justificationmeans, and how faith and works are integral to it. Discover how we become heirs to the promises and blessings of

Christ through faith. See how in baptism we are truly made children of God, our loving and merciful Father. Learn how to live your faith by working in love. ...and much more.

Testimonials: “Galatians reminds me that God has truly called me and wants me inHis family and His love doesn’t end.” Brenda

“It’s just incredible. I never really knew what it meant to be free, what it meant to be a son ordaughter of God… Now I do. My entire faith is enriched by it.” Sharon

“Galatians is a wonderful study. I love how Jeff takes something that’s difficult to understand and putsit in easy terms for us to apply it to our lives. I enjoyed this study immensely.” Elizabeth

“The information he brought out just opened up my eyes. I’m a lector, and I've heard a lot of these scripturereadings over the years... Now I see them from a different viewpoint.” Richard

This new Bible Study begins Wednesday July 24 and will be held on Wed. morning at 9:30am in theAlpha-Omega room and again Wed. evening at 7:00pm in the Alpha-Omega Room.

FR DENNIS O’BRIEN COLLECTION FOR MISSION IN ECUADOR

Thanks to your generosity, we have collected $9,015.00 so far for the Mission in Ecuador. Be Blest, Fr Tom

St. Peter Catholic School has been educating students in West Volusia county for over 60 years. We are a PreK-2 through 8th grade school.

Prayer is the central focus of our lives. We begin and end each day with prayer as a school family. Our students score in the top 10% of the nation on the IOWA Assessments which is a nationally normed assessment tool.

Great things are happening here at St. Peter Catholic School! We are going on our third year of Mandarin Chinese for grades Pre-K-3 through 5th grade and two levels of Spanish (based on ability). St. Peter also offers ability grouping for mathematics from 5th through 8th grades. We offer an Honors Program for Science, Social Studies, and for next year ability grouping for Language Art, and Literature as well.

We offer an excellent Art and Music Program with band being offered as an elective program after school, for all grades. St. Peter also offers an expanded athletic program for grades 4th through 8th grade in Boy's Flag Football, Girl's Volleyball, Boys and Girls Basketball, Boys and Girls Golf, as well as Lacrosse for middle school boys and girls!

St. Peter offers a state of the art science lab where students work on both virtual (using notebooks) as well as hands on experiments. A computer lab with 35 student stations and classrooms equipped with interactive projectors, white boards, and document cameras. Our computer classes are exposed to many software programs and in middle school, students work on designing their own web pages, and programming using HTML.

Our middle school students have an advanced elective program on Wednesdays where they can choose from a variety of outside disciplines with parish volunteers assisting with the facilitation of these programs.

This coming school year we are offering a Junior Achievement program for grades 1st through 5th where adults from our parish will help with the facilitation of this endeavor as well as "Girls on the Run" offered to 1st through 8th grade girls. During this program, teachers and volunteer moderators will help young girls with behaviors and challenges facing each age group as well as working on their self-esteem and confidence.

Service at St. Peter is a very important aspect of our educational development of students. Our older and younger students visit a local nursing home monthly to visit with the elderly.
