Don’t Let Hearing Loss Spoil Your Vacation!

Proper planning will prevent hearing loss

from interfering with your vacation plans.

Just make sure your pre-vacation “to do” list

includes these critical steps designed to

ensure your vacation lives up to what you

dream it should be.

1. Schedule an appointment with your audiologist or hearing aid specialist to have your hearing aids cleaned and

checked before you leave for vacation. If you have a

spare pair of hearing aids, make sure those are in working

order as well…and remember to pack them.

2. Stock up on batteries. Take enough with to cover the

length of your vacation, as well as an additional

supply…just in case you get stranded.

3. Try to avoid taking out your hearing aids in your car or on an airplane, but if you must do so, take the time to put

them away. Do not let them lay in your lap or on your lap

tray, otherwise they may be lost when you get out of the

car or de-board the plane.

4. When staying overnight in a hotel, ask the front desk staff

if they have a hotel kit for the hearing impaired. These

kits typically include things like a visual smoke detector, a

door knock signaler, phone alert, strap-on phone

amplifier, tactile vibrator alarm clock, teletext (TTY) and a

closed caption converter.

Living well with hearing loss is very doable…it just takes a little

planning!
