So… how to make life easier?

Interdental brushes have made a huge impact upon compliance rates as

they are generally easier to use than floss.

The efficacy of interdental brushes on plaque and parameters of

periodontal inflammation – a systematic review

Studies showed a positive significant difference using IDB withrespect to plaque scores,

bleeding scores and probing pocket depth.

So… how to make life easier?

Evidence suggests that interdental (ID) cleaning with interdental

brushes (IDB) is the most effective method for ID plaque removal.

Efficacy of interdental mechanical plaque control in

managing gingivitis – a meta-review

Sälzer, Slot, Van der Weijden, Dörfer. 11th EWP 2015.

The majority of available studies fail to demonstrate that flossing is generally

effective in plaque removal.

Top tips for ID cleaning• Insert the brush gently into the interdental

space, looking for a snug, but not tight fit

•Use a slight turn when inserting and removing

•Adapt the brush filaments around the shape of

the papillae

•Brush head may be gently curved/shaped to

improve access and cleaning of back teeth

•May be used for the topical application of

antibacterial agents and other medicaments

but not toothpaste (RDA)

•Manage patients expectation of how long the

brush will last

TePe GOOD® toothbrush

Page 47: Healthy habits - TePe

How can sugar be GOOD for your teeth?...when it’s used to make a toothbrush!

•The new TePe GOOD® toothbrush is made from sugar

cane. Sugars from the sugar cane plant are converted

to ethanol

•Ethanol is then converted into polyethylene which is used

to manufacture our bio-plastic (green plastic) toothbrush

Why is this better for the environment ?

•Unlike fossil fuels, bio-based polyethylene (green plastic)

made from sugar cane is renewable up to 96%. This means

that sugar cane can be regrown within a year and be used to

produce new bio-plastic

•Bio-based polyethylene also has a 95% carbon dioxide

neutral footprint. This means that there is an almost

negligible impact on greenhouse gas emissions

Page 48: Healthy habits - TePe

Here’s to the GOOD life

The TePe GOOD® toothbrush

•Handle: bio-based polyethylene (based on sugar cane) which

has a renewable content of 96%

•Filaments: bio-based polyamide (based on castor oil or

ricinoil) from 100% renewable sources

The TePe GOOD packaging

•Blister pack: 70% recycled PET which has approx. 60%

lower CO₂ emissions

•Backing card: FSC approved cardboard

•Both can be widely recycled in the UK

Smile, it’s GOOD for you
