Context



Community Based Seniors ServicesA broad definition that includes all municipal and non-profit services

that provide programming for older adults including recreation centres,

community centres, multi-service agencies, seniors centres, community

coalitions, and neighbourhood houses.



The Raising the Profile Project (2016) was launched to:

1. Raise awareness of the vital role of CBSS

2. Document the uneven provision of, and support for, CBSS

3. Outline a business case for greater sector investment

4. Identify capacity building strategies and social innovations that would improve sector collaboration and coordination

1. Share stories and provide research evidence on impact of the community-based health promotion and prevention programming to seniors.

2. Facilitate networking among leaders from across the province.

3. Showcase key role of the not-for-profit sector in providing health promotion and prevention programming to vulnerable seniors and identify how other sectors can work together.

4. Highlight Declaration recognizing importance of Community-Based Seniors Services in supporting seniors’ independence, resilience, social connectedness.

5. Engage in issue dialogues to identify challenges and explore opportunities for building capacity and collaborative solutions

CBSS Knowledge Hub

The goal of the Knowledge Hub is to:

Build capacity within the CBSS sector, foster cohesion, and increase collaboration with larger institutional partners to support older adults with increasingly complex needs who want to live in their own homes and communities for as long as possible.

Healthy Aging CORE will:

• connect CBSS organizations and stakeholder groups across sectors, with each other, and with research and academic communities

• foster communication, coordination, collaboration, capacity, cohesion, and effectiveness

• create opportunities in user-centered program design and evaluation

• support intra- and inter-disciplinary collaboration

• demonstrate relationship between academic research and real-world impact

• leverage evidence based approaches and research to support program and policy development
