3. THE SAMPLE REGISTRATION SYSTEM
(SRS)

SRS is a large scale demographic survey
conducted in India for providing reliable
annual estimates of birth rate, death rate
and other fertility and mortality indicators.

followed by an independent survey every sixmonths by an official.
The data obtained through these operations arematched. The unmatched and partially
matched events are verified in the field andthereafter an unduplicated count of births anddeaths is obtained.
