Dear Colleagues :

Greetings from Chandigarh!

“Adolescent And Youth Friendly Health Initiative

(AYFHI) Through Mentoring Programs For Students”

About GMCH Chandigarh

Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH)

Chandigarh is a prestigious medical institution providing an

excellent academic and scientific environment under dynamic

leadership of our esteemed Director Principal, Professor Atul

Sachdev, GMCH Chandigarh. Mentorship Programs in GMCH

was introduced by our esteemed Former Director Principal,

Professor Raj Bahadur , presently Vice Chancellor, Baba Farid

University of Health Sciences, Faridkot.

Department of Community Medicine, (GMCH)

headed by Professor Naveen K. Goel is actively involved in

multi-dimensional academic and research endeavors and has

undertaken several Research Projects, and also a series of

Seminars, Workshops, Symposiums funded by various

National and International Agencies like ICMR, DST, SERB,

UGC, CSIR , NACO, UNAIDS etc.

Introduction to Symposium:

Adolescents and youths pose a number of reproductive and

sexual health (RSH) challenges. Addressing their needs is a

challenge that goes well beyond the role of health services

alone. Adolescent Friendly Health Services (AFHS) should

be extended beyond health institutions. Extending AFHS

in school or college premises for easy accessibility should

be considered. Mentoring relationships contribute to the

health and well-being of adolescents and young youths.

This Symposium will be useful in suggesting an Adolescent

and Youth Friendly Health Initiative (AYFHI) with

implementation of “mentoring” at school and college levels

as teachers have the potential to serve as effective mentors

in Indian traditions.

Objectives:

This two days Symposium organized by Department of

Community Medicine, GMCH Chandigarh, during

August 27-28, 2015 may be helpful in bridging crucial

gaps in implementation of Reproductive And Sexual

Health (RSH) and other services for adolescents and

youths accepting newer challenges. Participants will get

an opportunity to share their views on RSH needs of

adolescent and youth students, problems encountered in

delivering services, and effective implementation of

mentoring in schools and colleges as a step ahead

towards Adolescent And Youth Friendly Health

Initiative (AYFHI). Also, present symposium will be

beneficial in developing mentorship programs to be

introduced in schools/colleges based on views of invited

participants and experts.
