Excavations – General Rules• For excavation work on university land

you must have a Permit to Dig• All work must be covered by a risk

assessment• All ground works must be considered

to be near live utilities unless you have specific information that it is otherwise

• All accidents and incidents must be reported to your line manager and the UoR project or maintenance manager

Permit To Dig• The permit must be requested in

advance (at least 5 working days) to give us time to provide the information.

• Permits are still required if you are carrying out a full survey as part of the works.

Non Excavation Workplace Hazards• Other construction tasks in the area• Students and UoR visitors a large

transient population • Some students and visitors may not

have English as a first language and may not have as sound an understanding of H&S
