For Headquarters staff members, Congress is the culmination of a year’s preparation and plan- ning. Each staff member traveling to Anaheim has a special area of expertise. They will be work- ing in various areas of the Convention Center throughout pre-Congress and Congress to assure that every aspect from registration through the closing session is successful. Congress is an excellent opportunity for Head- quarters staff to get aquainted with the members and learn how best to meet their needs. Headquarters Staff at Congress

Members attending Congress in Anaheim will see many familiar faces and some new ones among the people wearing green ribbons designating Headquarters staff.

For Headquarters staff members, Congress is the culmination of a year’s preparation and plan- ning. Each staff member traveling to Anaheim has a special area of expertise. They will be work- ing in various areas of the Convention Center throughout pre-Congress and Congress to assure that every aspect from registration through the closing session is successful.

Accounting Department The Accounting Department will handle all accounting processes and operate the Bookstore. The Office Services division will handle shipping and distribution of supplies and equipment needed at Congress.

Donna Krowen, director of accounting/office servi- ces, will be responsible for all accounting functions at Congress and will oversee pre-Congress seminar regis- tration. She will also be available at the AORN booth.

Moira Staunton, assistant director of account- ing, will supervise. the accounting office activi- ties and assist with pre-Congress seminar registration.

Martha Anacker, accounting clerk, will be responsible for the bus ticket sales booth and assist with pre- Congress seminar registration.

Shirley Jordan, accounting clerk, will be responsi- ble for AORN publications and jewelry sales in the Bookstore.

Murilyn Johnson, accounting clerk, will assist with the accounting office activities.

Dale Anacker, assistant director of office services, will supenrise distribution of materials (eg, education session handouts) and equipment (q, typewriters, adding machines) to AORN staff offices and education sessions.

Mar@ Zweber, receiving clerk, will assist with the distribution of materials and equipment.

Computer Services Department

The Computer Services Department will handle the information processing needed for registration, payments, and accommoda- tions for the nurses and exhibitors attend- ing Congress.

Dan Novak, director of computer services, will be respon- sible for computer systems used at Congress. He will also be available at the AORN booth.

John Shivar, data base manager/computer sys- tems analyst, will supervise computer services.

Michael Brent, compu- ter programmer, will be responsible for personal computer systems main- tenance for the AORN booth and Exhibitors’ Advisory Committee components.

John Hilliard, computer operator/ data card supervisor, will be responsi- ble for the data card services in the exhibit area.

Education Department

The Education Department arranges the continu- ing education sessions that are the heart of Con- gress. Among the department’s responsibilities are evaluating members’ needs, selecting program topics, arranging for moderators and speakers, and awarding continuing education credits for sw- sions attended.

Janet Hhn, RN, director of education, will super- vise the education department professional staH in the education sessions and mandatory continuing edu- tion state requirements areas. She will also mist the Congress speakers and be available at the AORN booth.

Janice AUen, RN, senior coordinator/continuing education, will be the Congress education program director.

Jme Rkar&, RN, senior coordinator/consultatiation, will assis1 in the Congress Headquarters otsce and be available in the consultation section of the AORN booth.

Paula Stiks, RN, credentialing coordinator, will be avail- able in the Mandatory Continuing Education State Requirements Room to provide information on continu- ing education requirements.

Kathkn Justice, RN, program specialWcontinu- ing education, will be the staff liaison in the Ana- heim Planning Committee Room. She will also be an information resource in the Bookstore and assist with pre-Congress seminars.

Dorothy Fogg, RN, consultation specialist, will be available in the consultation section of the AORN booth and also act as an information resource in the Bookstore.

Diane Sclunaus, RN, program specialist/continuing education, will assist in the Headquarters office and will demonstrate the new Computer-assisted Interac- tive Video Instruction in the AORN booth. She will also assist with pre-Congress seminars.

Cindy Cruder, RN, consultation special- ist, will be available in the consultation sec- tion of the AORN booth and act as an infor- mation resource in the Bookstore.

Becky Berg, assistant librarian, will be the Congress Headquarters ofice coordinator.

Pam Gibson, certification program special- ist, will be available in the National Certifi- cation Board booth, in the registration area, to provide information on certification.

Anne Kolego, continuing education secre- tary, will be the coordinator for the Speaker/Guest/Student Registration Room, which handles registration for speakers, guests, student nurses, and medi- cal students.

Meeting Services Depart men t

The Meeting Services Department plays a key role in making arrangements for each Congress including site location, hotel accommodations and registration, the exhibits, and convention center facilities.

Sylvia Rottman, director of meeting services, will be responsible for convention management, overseeing all physical phases of Congress and making sure everything runs smoothly. She will also be a staff representative to the Exhibitors' Advisory Committee and be available at the AORN booth.

Dorothy Weber, assistant director of meeting servi- ces, will be the exhibits manager at Congress. She will oversee the exhibit area, making sure it func- tions smoothly.

Jody Simpson, secretary to the director of meeting services, will be the liaison between the Headquarters ofice and the Anaheim Convention Center staff.

Melissa Attacker, secretary to the assistant director of meeting services, will supervise exhibitor registration

and assist with pre-Congress seminar registration. d) 53

Membership Department The Membership Department maintains records for the Association membership and supports local chapter activities. At Congress, the depart- ment will work in the “Join AORN” booth and help with delegate/alternate registration.

Carol Sibelius, RN, director of membership, will be in charge of delegate registration and will be the parlia- mentarian for Congress. She will also be available at the AORN booth.

Janet Paulson, assistant to the director of membership, will be responsible for registering delegates and alternates.

Carol Moench (above), chapterlmember services assistant, and ViCkiHogw (left), membership services assistant, will assist with the “Join AORN” effort and process new members’ applications.

Publications Department The Publications Department staff keeps members informed through the Journal and the Congress News. The Congress News will be dis- tributed free daily during Congress week. Editors will also be available to talk with those interested in writing articles for the Journal.

Put Palmer, RN, director of publications/editor- ial, will be responsible for the Congress News and Journal editorial staff and be available to consult with authors interested in writing for the Journal. She will also be available at the AORN booth.

Jo Ann Sunsen, director of publications/busines, will be responsible for the Congress News and Journal produc- tion staff. She will also assist the exhibits manager and be available at the AORN booth.

Judith Mathias, RN, clinical editor, will be responsi- ble for press registration and will function as public relations consultant for hometown and general news releases.

Deborah Combs, assistant editor, will report on events, including Congress and pre-Congress seminars, for the Congress News and Journal.

Shuttle Bus Service at Congress For a one-time fee of $10, Congress registrants may ride the AORN shuttle system for the entire week. You may obtain a stamp for your registra- tion badge either in the general registration area (California Room), or at the exhibitor registra- tion area (Pacific Room) of the Convention Cen- ter anytime during registration hours between Sat- urday, March 8 and Friday, March 14.

Bus transportation on the shuttle should take about 15 minutes during peak traffic hours. The AORN shuttle only serves official Congress hotels.

No stamp is required to ride the buses on Sat- urday, March 8, but after that day, a properly stamped badge is required to use the system dur- ing daytime hours. No refunds can be provided, so be sure you need to use the shuttle service before purchasing the stamp.

Flyers with information about bus routes and time schedules will be available at the registra- tion counters and at all official Congress hotels. The Congress program will also explain the bus service schedule.

No special bus service will be provided for meetings arranged by states, chapters, or other groups. Registrants should arrange their own transportation to these meetings.

The shuttle bus schedule is as follows: Saturday, March 8 (free): 9 AM to 6 PM, Sunday, March 9: 6:30 AM to 6 PM, Monday, March 1 0 6:30 AM to 6 PM, Tuesday, March 11: 630 AM to 5:30 PM, Wednesday, March 12: 6:30 AM to 530 PM, Thursday, March 13: 6:30 AM to 7 PM, Friday, March 1 4 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM, and Nights: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thurs- day: 630 PM to Midnight; Wednesday, 630 PM to 1 AM.
