The Royals remained perfect on the young season by knocking off the Tigers 11-10 in extra innings while the White Sox had to rally from a six-point deficit to defeat the Rockies 9-8. The Rockies jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over the White Sox in the first inning and continued to add to their lead throughout the game. The Rockies scored another run in the second and another in the third, and the White Sox scored a run each inning to make the score 4-2. The Rockies added another run to take a 5- 2 lead in the fourth, but the White Sox fought back to score two runs to cut the lead to 5-4. The Rockies appeared to give themselves some breathing room by scoring three runs in the top of the fifth including a double with the bases loaded that scored two runs with two outs. The Rockies left base runners on second and third when the final out was recorded, and it might have been the difference. Down 8-4, the Wite Sox were able to get base runners on and tied the game 8-8 with one out. The Rockies were able to get a strikeout for two outs, but a walk loaded the bases. A pitch got by the Rockies catcher, and a run scored on the play. Due to the time limit, the run ended the game in the bottom of the fifth, and completed the five-run rally for the White Sox. The win moved the White Sox to 2-0 while the Rockies dropped to 0-2. Tonight, the Royals (2-0) will face the Athletics (0-2), and Tuesday the Tigers (1-1) will play the Rockies (0-2). All games begin with minor league action at 6 p.m. at Rosel Field with major league games to follow. Te-Boo! Jets’ new backup booed at Yankee Stadium NEW YORK (AP) — Tim Tebow has work to do if he’s going to win over New York sports fans. The new backup quarterback for the Jets was booed at Yankee Stadium on Sunday night when he was shown on the giant video board — even though he was wearing a Yankees cap. Sitting in the third row next to the Los Angeles Angels dugout, Tebow cracked a smile and acknowledged the camera. There was a smattering of cheers, but most of the initial reactions were boos. Tebow was acquired by the New York Jets from Denver in a much-hyped trade last month. He is expected to back up starter Mark Sanchez, even though Tebow rallied the Broncos to the NFL playoffs last season and became a polarizing sensation in the process. “I didn’t get a chance to see him,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said after his team’s 11-5 victory. “I would have loved to get a chance to see him and talk to him. I’m sure he’ll be back at some point. Obviously he’s going to be around a lot more now. But I’d love to visit with him at some point.” Sitting next to Tebow was Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade, also booed when he was shown on the scoreboard earlier in the game. But those boos quickly turned to cheers when Wade held up his Yankees cap. Wade and the Heat beat the New York Knicks 93-85 Sunday afternoon at Madison Square Garden. Redskins won a North Cup gameagainst Sunrise Academy, 5-0, butlost a second round game toGarden City 2-1 Thursday atRedskin Field.The Lady Redskins battled the

Lady Buffaloes to a 0-0 tie in the

first half, and after a hand ball inthe goalie box gave Garden City achance at a goal, Liberal goalkeeperMagali Vazquez blocked the shot.With 11 minutes to play, Garden

City broke the 0-0 tie with aputback goal to take a 1-0 lead.But a foul in the Garden City

penalty box gave Karina Vazquez ashot at the goal, and she made herpenalty kick to tie the game 1-1.But another hand ball on the

Lady Redskins with five minutes toplay gave the Lady Buffaloesanother penalty kick shot, and this

time Vazquez could not save it.Garden City went on to win the

game 2-1 and advance to the NorthCup championship.The Lady Redskins will play

Mulvane for third place Saturday.Liberal (2-9-1 overall, 0-5-1

The Liberal Redskin bats were silenced in GardenCity Tuesday in a Western Athletic Conferencedouble header.Liberla managed only two hits in two games while

committing seven errors in 8-0 and 10-0 losses.Colin Ware gave up nine hits and eight runs while

Liberla committed two erros in Gae 1 in an 9-0 loss.Ware kept the Buffaloes scoreless until the third

inning when Garden City scored four runs. TheBuffaloes added twomore in the fourth and anotherpair in the sixth.In Game 2, Brent Lenear took the mound, and

the Buffaloes took advantage early by scoring fourruns in the first and three more in the second.Leenear gave up nie hits, but the Redskins also

committed five errors in the game.With a 7-0 lead after two innings, Garden City

added abother run in the third and two more in thefifth.The Redskins could not score in the top of the

fifth, and the game was called by the run rule, 10-0.Liberal (2-16) will end the regular season Tuesday

in a double header with Hays at the LiberalBaseball Complex.

After winning their first game in two years lastweek, the Rockies couldn’t make it two in a rowThursday.The White Sox broke a 3-3 tie in the final inning by

breaking loose for four runs, and the Rockies wereretired by White Sox pitcher Alex Yanez in thebottom of the sixth for the 7-3 White Sox win.The White Sox jumped out early to a 2-0 lead, but

the Rockies responded by scoring two in the bottomof the first to tie the game.The White Sox added a run in the top of the

second, but the Rockies made the score 3-3 in thebottom of the third.Defense took over while Yanez and Alex Carrasco

were caught in a pitcher’s duel. Neither team scoredin the fourth or fifth innings.But two bloop hits by the White Sox coupled with

thee infield errors allowed theWhite Sox to score fourruns in the top of the sixth.The Rockies were able to get Raef Stahle on base in

Knott remembers personal struggles,provides bat for Shallenburger

When Pat Knott was 7-years-old, his parentsdivorced, and he grew up with a mother whostruggled to pay the bills and take care of her son.Knott is now a middle school teacher and the

varsity softball coach for Liberal High School, andhe has been involved with baseball his entire life.As the state tournament director for the 10-and-

under division, Knott heard a story about anotheryoung man that has seen some tough times with hisfamily.Lynn Shallenburger form Columbus didn’t have a

parent in the stands. With his father battling a

disabling disease and his mother working to takecare of the family, the best they could do was getLynn a $3 bat from eBay and send him with histeammates.“I did a gut check,” Knott said. “I was there

before. Parents should be able to come watch. Youhave a 10-year-old kid here by himself. I got him abat, and talked to him.”Not just a bat — a Mattingly V-Force.In his first at-bat, Shallenburger sent a drive deep

to left center that bounced to the fence. Shallen-burger reached third and won the WOW Award.“I just did it out of my heart,” Knott said. “Not as

a tournament director but as a human being. Itneeded to be done.”
