Chan Abraham, Luminus Group Chief Executive

Luminus celebrates ten years of changing the worldNo. 1 for leadership, work-life balance & strong moral principles

Luminus, nationally recognised as the best for leadership, employee work-life balance and being run on strong moral principles, celebrated its tenth anniversary on 20 March 2010.

The milestone was marked with a special Luminus Conference on Friday 19 March held at Brook House for employees, resident representatives and special guests. The event featured the Luminus Singers who performed ‘I’d like to Teach the World to Sing’ and a look back over the successes and achievements of the past ten years.

On Saturday 20 March, employees, residents, local church leaders and special guests gathered at Brook House for ‘Demonstrating a More Excellent Way – Giving Thanks for 10 Years of Changing the World’, a special commemoration service celebrating Luminus and looking forward to the next ten years.

In March 2000, Luminus Group Chief Executive, Chan Abraham, paid £65million to buy almost 7,000 homes as part of a vision to invest in new homes

and other ways of improving the quality of life for the people of Huntingdonshire.

Residents have benefited from major improvements to their homes, their environment and in the creation of many new services.

Mr. Abraham said, “As Luminus celebrates ten years of seeking to change

the world for the better, I am inspired by the commitment shown by our residents and employees to help make this vision a reality.

These are strong foundations upon which we want to continue

the work of Luminus over the next ten years. This is our 2020 Vision: The Road to Renewal.

Our belief is that the good things that are happening as a result of what we do will influence and encourage others throughout the UK.

We hope they will feel inspired to follow our approach to leadership, our example of excellent service and the way we are renewing respect in communities.”

Many people think you can’t change the world but Luminus has been doing this successfully since March 2000.

Our real strength is in our hearts. We believe. So we are determined to change the present and to transform the future.

Our success springs from creating a different kind of place to work. We expect great attitude, clear focus and perseverance which means people have to be prepared to come across from where they may have been, to share our values and our way of doing things.

Time spent at work is so important we encourage them to seize the day, to be the best, to sign their work with pride and to live with aspiration and optimism.

All of this adds up to a premium brand business – a team that is making a real difference for individuals and communities right where we are – and encouraging others to do the same.

We hope you will be inspired to join us in our 2020 Vision on The Road to Renewal.

Luminus is celebrating winning the RoSPA Gold Medal for Health and Safety after being awarded an outstanding six consecutive gold awards as well as the British Safety Council‘s International Safety Award.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) awards are considered to be the ultimate testimonial to an organisation’s commitment to health and safety and recognise the extremely high standards achieved by Luminus.

For an organisation to win this coveted award it must provide evidence that it has comprehensive health and safety policies in place and must be committed to promoting a positive safety culture throughout the business.

Chan Abraham, Luminus Group Chief Executive, said “We are delighted to have received the prestigious RoSPA Gold Medal Award, the RoSPA Gold Award for Managing Occupational Road Risk for the second time and the British Safety Council’s International Safety award. Health and safety is of vital importance to us as an employer and service provider.

These awards are a testimony to the tremendous efforts of all of our staff in helping us maintain an excellent health and safety record, supported by our culture of business excellence. We will continue to seek improvement wherever possible and I hope our success will inspire others in our region and across the UK to do the same.”

Luminus, the eastern region’s premier housing provider, welcomed thirteen delegates from the 13 district of Prague to share best practice and give advice on building sustainable communities.

Since the end of the Soviet Union, the Czech Republic and their neighbours have faced challenges in building sustainable and effective social housing and struggled to contend with the high rise concrete blocks built under soviet rule.

The thirteen delegates visited Luminus to learn about the methods and approaches Luminus has employed to successfully build communities. The delegation met with Chan Abraham, Luminus Group Chief Executive and Nigel Finney, Executive Director (Operations) for a detailed insight into Luminus procedures before boarding a coach to be taken to see working developments and projects at Huntingdon North.

The delegation were able to speak to Luminus employees including the Luminus Neighbourhood Wardens to talk about front line services as well as receiving a wide range of literature designed to provide guidance upon their return.

Luminus Group Chief Executive Chan Abraham said, “In 2010, Luminus’ year of Renewing Hope and Inspiration, we were delighted to welcome colleagues from Prague 13. They face serious challenges but we hope that by sharing our best practice and the knowledge we have gained in the past ten years we can inspire and promote positive change in Prague 13. We look forward to helping them in the future.”
