Head Instructor - Squamish Yacht Club Start date: August 3rd (4 weeks). THE SQUAMISH YACHT CLUB IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING EXCELLENCE IN OUR LEARN TO SAIL PROGRAM, AND COMPLETE SUPPORT TO OUR VALUED COACHES. SITUATED AT THE NORTH END OF HOWE SOUND, WE EXPERIENCE SOME OF THE MOST CONSISTENT WINDS IN CANADA. SQUAMISH IS A YOUNG ACTIVE COMMUNITY, AND AN AMAZING PLACE FOR SAILING, KITING, WINDSURFING, MOUNTAIN BIKING, AND CLIMBING. THE SQUAMISH YOUTH SAILING & KAYAKING SCHOOL IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS IN THE COMMUNITY TO GAIN CONFIDENCE AND LEARN THE BASICS OF SAILING, KAYAKING AND BOAT SAFETY FROM CERTIFIED INSTRUCTORS. THE SQUAMISH YOUTH SAILING & KAYAKING SCHOOL WAS CREATED 6 YEARS AGO, AND HAS EXPERIENCED RAPID GROWTH. THE PROGRAM HAS FOSTERED A GROWING COMMUNITY OF JUNIOR SAILORS AND THE HOWE SOUND SAILING TEAM. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Creating safe, fun lesson plans teaching the basics of sailing and water safety Ensure all sailors are learning new skills and developing sailing abilities in a safe, controlled environment Oversee lesson plans and debriefs of instructors and assistants. Ensure instructors follow protocol. Mentor fellow instructors, and assist in any incidents that arise Report any damages and repairs needed at the end of the day to the Sailing School Coordinator Represent the Squamish Yacht Club's values when speaking with parents or members of the public. Responsible for theme days, end of year BBQ, race team practices, etc. Qualified applicants must have current certifications: 2015 CYA dues paid CYA CanSail4 sailing ability PCOC card Standard First Aid or Emergency First Aid Coach Boat Safety CanSail Fundamental Course Ethics Technical Can Sail 1&2 (priority to candidates with more qualifications) 3 or more seasons experience as a certified instructor (priority to those with racing experience and experience as race coach or head instructor) Salary: Comparative salaries based on experiences and qualifications 18 / h. If from out of town an accommodation allowance of $125 / week. Plus live out of $20 / day for 20 days.
