Welcome to the Historic DeSoto Theatreand thank you for attending today'sconcert, Mac Arnold and Plate Full 'OBlues. This concert is presented by theHistoric DeSoto Theatre Foundation withthe generous sponsorship from RACA,Rome Area Council for the Arts.

It's hard to believe how much time haspassed since the Foundation was formedand the above mission statement wascrafted. With the assistance of the FoxTheatre Institute, the tireless work ofmany volunteers and generous donationsfrom members and friends, we've beenable to accomplish much during this time.

Many more projects remain to be done,but we need support from the communityto make them possible. Born Gertrude Pridgett, Ma Rainey is aColumbus native who made over 100recordings including “Bo-weevil Blues,”

“Moonshine Blues,” “See See Rider,”“Black Bottom” and “Soon This Morning.”She was known for her powerful vocalabilities, energetic disposition, majesticphrasing and ‘moaning’ style of singing.In 1935, Rainey returned to herhometown in Columbus where she rantwo theaters until her death from a heartattack in 1939 in Rome.

Mac Arnold began playing inbands during high school andworked with famous names suchas James Brown, theTemptations and BB King. In theearly 70’s he moved to Californiaand worked on the set of SoulTrain. Now Mac has moved backto where it all began, in SouthCarolina, and is serving up amess of Blues with his own band,

“Mac Arnold & Plate Full O’ Blues”. The band consists of Danny Keylonon bass and vocals, Austin Brashier on guitar and vocals, Max Hightoweron keyboards, harmonica, guitar, and vocals, Mike Whitt on drums, andMac Arnold on vocals, bass and Gas Can Guitars.

Lon Eldridge (a native of Chattanooga,Tennessee) is often said to have talent andstyle well beyond his years. His warm andinfectious musicality is sure to keep youtuned in throughout the night, couplingmasterful fingerstyle guitar with clever,brilliant vocals. You'll swear there's morethan one person playing on stage! Lon hastoured both the USA and Europe, takinghis unique blend of traditional blues,ragtime, and jazz to whole new audiences.
