*1 Even when 720 60p has been selected by the EVI-H100V/PCSA-CXG100, the PCS-XG100 recognizes

the connected camera and automatically encodes signals to 720 30p.

*2 Turning on the IMAGE FLIP switch on the rear panel of the camera flips the image upside down.

*3 If a DVI-I connector-type camera cable comes with the PCS-XG100/XG77, a DVI-to-HDMI adaptor

(commercially available) is required.

*4 The PCS-XG100 supports 60i, 60p, and 30p of the camera input. Once the PCS-XG100 recognizes that

the EVI-H100V/PCSA-CXG100 is being connected, however, it automatically encodes signals to 30p.

(When the PCS-XG77 recognizes that the EVI-H100V/PCSA-CXG100 is being connected, it encodes

signals to 720/30p.)

1.5.2. Notes on Using External Microphone (PCS-XG100/XG77)

When connecting the external microphone to “AUDIO 1 IN” or “AUDIO 2 IN”, a Mic Mixer is

required. Also, it is necessary to adjust the output level to the line level. By adjusting the

output to match the line level, you can input this output to “AUDIO 1 IN” or “AUDIO 2 IN”..

Adjust the audio level by watching the level meter displayed on the monitor to prevent level

clipping. The level meter can be displayed by setting “Audio Level Meter” to “On” via Setup

-> Home Menu 3.

When “AUDIO 1 IN” and “AUDIO 2 IN” are used as AUX which is selectable via Setup→

Audio 1 -> Audio Input, an input of up to 22 kHz input signal can be passed through.

However echo canceling function cannot be used.

When “AUDIO 1 IN” and “AUDIO 2 IN” are used as MIC which is selectable via Setup ->

Audio 1 -> Audio Input, the echo canceling function can be used but the input frequency is

limited to up to 16 kHz.

1.5.3. Audio Level Adjustment

Before adjusting the volume on the TV monitor, set the volume of the PCS to the appropriate

position.

1. To display the volume meter, set “Volume” to “On” via Setup -> Home Menu 3.

2. Press the VOLUME +/- buttons on the remote commander to set the volume level on the

adjustment bar displayed on the screen to the middle position.

(1)

Page 17: HD VIDEO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM PCS-XG100/XG77 ... - …...©2015 Sony Corporation HD VIDEO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM PCS-XG100/XG77 . PCS-XC1 . System Integration Manual . 1st Edition Revised

3. Adjust the volume on the TV monitor so that you can clearly hear the remote party

speaking.

Notes: ・Do not activate the TV’s surround sound feature as it may prevent the echo canceller of the

PCS from functioning properly and cause an insufficient echo erasure.

・During communication, set the volume on the PCS to the appropriate level, and do not

adjust the volume on the TV monitor.

1.5.4. Audio Output Delay Setting (Setup->Audio 2)

Using the Lip Sync function closely synchronizes the audio and video signals. Even with the

Lip Sync function, however, there still may be a slight time lag, but this can be eliminated by

setting a value in “Audio Output Delay Setting”.

Note that, when the audio signal is fed to an audio system other than that built into the video

display, even the use of Lip Sync function will not eliminate the time lag between the audio

and video. The time lag can also be eliminated by setting a delay in “Audio Output Delay

Setting”. The point where audio is almost synchronized with the video is known as the

“Default” value. From here, you can select “Default”, “Default +/-50 ms”, and “Default+/-100

ms”. Also by selecting “Custom”, an audio output delay between 0 ms and 500 ms can be

set as an absolute delay which has no relation to the Default value.

1.5.5. Audio input delay setting (Setup->Audio 2)

When there is a time lag between the input audio and input video, a delay can be set in

“Audio Input Delay” to adjust the audio to the video. An identical delay is set for all the

microphones and all the external lines of the PCS. After any setting of the audio and video

system to operate with the PCS, and then setting the “Audio Input Delay”, it is important to

restore the original values or reset the “Default” value if the system is disconnected from the

PCS..

The “Audio Delay from Video Picture at Remote Party” includes the “Audio Input Delay” set

for the local party and the “Audio Output Delay” set for the remote party. As the optimum

“Audio Output Delay” setting is adjusted for each remote party according to the individual

usage circumstances, it is recommended to use the “Default” value for the “Audio Input

Delay Setting”.

1.5.6. Reversed MIC Inputs Function (Setup->Audio 2) (PCS-XG100/XG77)

This function allows you to select whether to transmit the audio input from the microphone

with the right and left reversed to a remote party. Normally, you do not need to change this

setting. (See the microphone layout example when installing microphone referring to

Section 1.4.) Use this function to reverse the MIC inputs especially when the right and left of

the camera image and the audio do not match on the receiving side because of a specific

installation environment.

To reverse the audio, set “Reversed MIC Inputs” to “On” via Setup -> Audio 2. (The factory

setting is “Off”.)

Sender side Receiver side

Reversed MIC Inputs: Off (set by the sender

side)

Reversed MIC Inputs: On (set by the sender

side)

Audio Input: MIC,

AUDIO 1 IN, AUDIO 2 IN *Note

When the right and left of the camera image and

the audio do not match on the receiver side

(shown in the upper figure), this allows you to

match them by reversing the mic inputs (shown in

the lower figure)

*Note:

The reverse audio function can be used even with AUDIO 1 IN/AUDIO 2 IN only when these inputs are

used for MIC. Note that you cannot use it with AUDIO 1 IN/AUDIO 2 IN when these inputs are used for

AUX.

During videoconferencing, it may be hard to hear what a speaker speaking into a

microphone from a distance is saying compared to vocalizing near the microphone.

“Adaptive Voice Pickup and Sound” setting allows you to set the pickup range and sound

quality for the microphone according to your environment.

Setup Menu Settings (Audio 2):

Setting Parameter Descriptions

Adaptive

Voice Pickup

and Sound

Close and

Natural

Select this to pick up sound from a close distance (within 1.5-m

radius). The quality of the picked up sound will be more natural.

Balance Select this to pick up sound from a medium distance (within 3-m

radius). This option strikes a balance between pickup range and sound

quality.

Wide and Clear Select this for a wider pickup range than "Balance". The quality of the

picked up sound will be clearer.

Manual Select this to specify "Mic Noise Reduction" and "Mic AGC" manually.

Mic Noise

Reduction

High / Mid /Low This is only available when "Adaptive Voice Pickup and Sound" is set

to "Manual" and allows you to set mic noise reduction. You can select

from "High", "Mid", and "Low". When you select "High", noise

reduction is increased to produce a clearer sound quality. When you

select "Low", noise reduction is reduced to produce a more natural

sound quality.

Mic AGC High / Mid /Low This is only available when "Adaptive Voice Pickup and Sound" is set

to "Manual" and allows you to adjust the mic gain automatically.

You can select from "High", "Mid", and "Low". When you select "High",

the sound pickup range widens. When you select "Low",

the sound pickup range emphasizes closeness.

1.5.8. Stereo Echo Canceller (PCS-XG100/XG77)

Stereo echo canceller’s learning principle

When there is only one sound source, the stereo echo canceller cannot learn four different

echo paths, because:

. The balance of the volume from each of the L and R channels is constant.

. The arrival time interval (Δt) between the sounds from the L and R channels is constant.

To achieve adequate learning by the stereo echo canceller, the sounds from multiple sound

sources of the remote party must reach the echo canceller. This is the essential difference

from the monaural echo canceller. If all of the participants stay in their respective fixed

positions and speak, however, the stereo echo canceller can produce its maximum effect. If

the speaker moves, the stereo echo canceller learning process may take a long time and an

echo may remain.

1.6.4. Presentation Screen Size Setting

(PCS-XG100/XG77:Ver.1.4 or later,PCS-XC1:Ver.1.1 or later)

When a PC picture for presentation is transmitted from the PCS, there are times when the

picture has black-borders and is much smaller than the sent picture. Depending on the

settings or type of the PC, this can happen when the displayed PC screen is deemed to be

only a part of the entire picture and transmitted as such by the PCS. It may be possible to

prevent such an occurrence by changing either the settings of the PC or the settings on the

PCS-side.

How is a PC picture sent and then received at a receiving party using H.239?

Page 26: HD VIDEO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM PCS-XG100/XG77 ... - …...©2015 Sony Corporation HD VIDEO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM PCS-XG100/XG77 . PCS-XC1 . System Integration Manual . 1st Edition Revised

3. Encode: Input picture is encoded and then sent to a receiver via a network

4. Decode: Encoded picture is received and decoded

5. Picture on remote monitor: Decoded picture is adjusted in size and then

displayed on a monitor at a remote site

When the PC picture received at a receiver side becomes much smaller by being surrounded by black borders: This may occur due to the PC picture being encased in black borders at the input stage of

the transmission process as shown in the figure below. This occurrence may be prevented

by either changing the PC settings of the origin or by changing the resolution of the PCS to

XGA.

<-Change "Video Input” to

DVI-I2 (PC) or “HDMI IN (PC)”

to check whether the picture

displayed on a local monitor is

smaller than the actual one.

2.5. Network Troubleshooting

2.5.1. Confirmation Flow

2.5.2. Description of Each Step

Step 1: Checking packet losses In this step, check to see whether packet losses have occurred or not from the PCS’s log.

The following describes the check procedures and how to read the logs.

If packet losses are detected in lines having the string “OPLOG” in the log, go to Step 2.

If no packet losses are detected, it indicates that there is no problem with the network or with

the PCS.

Page 53: HD VIDEO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM PCS-XG100/XG77 ... - …...©2015 Sony Corporation HD VIDEO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM PCS-XG100/XG77 . PCS-XC1 . System Integration Manual . 1st Edition Revised

53 ©2015 Sony Corporation

Procedures: 1. Ensure the settings are as follows under the “QoS1” and “QoS2” setup menus.

Forward Error Correction (FEC): Off

Packet Resend Request (ARQ): On

Adaptive Rate Control (ARC): Off

Auto Bandwidth Detection: Off

2. Take the system log. (Refer to Section 2.4.)

3. Record the log for a minute or more, using the recording function provided by the terminal

software.

4. At the completion of recording, open the saved log and search for

“pkt:disorder/loss/rcvr/rcv:” using a text editor, etc.

Note: The “pkt:disorder/loss/rcvr/rcv:” line is displayed once a minute.

How to read the log: Focus on the “pkt:disorder/loss/rcvr/rcv:” line, and check for the strings “loss” and “rcv”.

“loss” indicates the packet loss count before QoS recovery

“rcv” shows the packet count after QoS recovery.

Refer to the log example below.

This log indicates that 1162 packets were lost and all of the 1162 lost packets were then

recovered by the ARQ retransmission feature.

Page 54: HD VIDEO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM PCS-XG100/XG77 ... - …...©2015 Sony Corporation HD VIDEO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM PCS-XG100/XG77 . PCS-XC1 . System Integration Manual . 1st Edition Revised

Step 2: Capturing network packets In this step, we will capture network packets.

Using packet capturing software helps you to know where the packet losses occur.

Preparations: Install a capture software (e.g. Ethereal, Wireshark) on a PC for packet capture.

The Wireshark Download Site: http://www.wireshark.org/

Connect a switch with mirroring capabilities (hereafter referred to as the “mirroring

switch”) between the PCS and the network switch, and then connect the PC for packet

capture to the monitor port of the mirroring switch.(Refer to the manual supplied with

the mirroring switch for details on the mirroring method.)

Procedures: 1. Connect the LAN cable from the PC to the mirror port.

2. Capture the network packets by using the capture software to get a packet capture log.

Step 3: Checking the packet capture log In this step, check to see whether packet losses occurred or not by checking the sequence

number in the captured log.

If there are any missing sequence numbers in the sender or receiver log, go to Step 4.

If there are no missing sequence numbers, it can be assumed that the packet loss occurs

between the switch and the PCS, or that the packet loss problem has been solved by

inserting the mirroring switch. In this case, repeat Step 1. If the symptom of packet loss is

not observed in the line of the string “OPLOG” in Step 1, it indicates that the “Ethernet

duplex mismatch problem” has been solved by the insertion of the mirroring switch.

(In this case, check the duplex setting of a network switch (or hub) prior to the mirroring

switch.)

Page 55: HD VIDEO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM PCS-XG100/XG77 ... - …...©2015 Sony Corporation HD VIDEO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM PCS-XG100/XG77 . PCS-XC1 . System Integration Manual . 1st Edition Revised

PCS-XG100/XG77/XC1 System Integration Manual

55 ©2015 Sony Corporation

Step 4: Checking differences in the sequence numbers In this step, check to see if there are any packets that exist on the sender side, and are lost

on the receiver side.

This can be checked by comparing the two logs of the sender-side and the receiver-side log.

If there are any differences between the logs, it can be deduced that the packet loss occurs

in the network. If there is no difference between the logs, it can be deduced that the packet

loss is being caused by an internal problem of the PCS or there is an “Ethernet duplex

mismatch problem” between the PCS and the switch.

In an example on the next page, the packet whose sequence number is “26120” is lost on

the receiver-side log although it exists on the sender-side log. The sender sends packet

“26120” twice according to the ARQ retransmission request, but the receiver receives

“26120” only once due to packet loss.

The fact that the packet exists on the sender-side log implies that the packet loss occurred

in the network, and not in the PCS. Specifically, it should be considered that the packet loss

occurred between the switch on the sender side and not that on the receiver side.

In this case, it can be suspected that the “Ethernet duplex mismatch problem” causes the

packet losses. This is because the packet losses can be seen only on the sender-side log. It

indicates that the packet losses did not occur between the PCS and the switch.
