Hazard Control Recognition Program
In July of 2013 the IowaIllinois Safety Council membership waspresented with a NEW IISC safety award program the HazardControl Recognition Program. The intent of this revamped safetyaward program is to focus on safer workplaces and to step away fromthe previous incident rate safety award program. This new safetyaward program provides opportunities for all member organizations toshare projects that have contributed to controlling hazards within theirindividual facilities. The Hazard Control Recognition Program has two differentcategories, the President's Choice Gold Awards and the HazardControl Excellence Silver Awards. President Elect, has the responsibility to review all safety awardapplications and to select the recipients of the President's ChoiceGold Award and the Hazard Control Excellence Silver Award. Hagie Manufacturing Receives CommunityEnrichment Award at the 2014 PDC
The IISC Board of Directorsestablished the CommunityEnrichment Award in 2006 torecognize one memberorganization annually that hascontributed significantly totheir local community in theareas of safety, health, andenvironmental efforts. Selection of this awardrecipient is also theresponsibility of the Safety Awards Committee. Hagie Manufacturing was recognized as the recipient of the 2013Community Enrichment Award during the Safety Awards Luncheon &Ceremony at IISC's 61st Annual Professional DevelopmentConference & Expo in Cedar Rapids, IA on April 25, 2014. Hagie Manufacturing has exemplified a commitment to educating thecommunity with safety and health initiatives every year with theirannual safety fair, hosted at their facility in Clarion. In addition toHagie's employees, Hagie opens their doors to members of thecommunity and to employees of local businesses in an effort toprovide additional safety and health educational opportunities in anentertaining setting. Additional Hagie Community Efforts:Hagie employees receive free memberships to local fitness centers toencourage healthy lifestyles. Hagie provides their employees withtwo paid days per year to allow for volunteer service work in thecommunity. Additionally, the organization has made donations toHonor Flight, an area hospital, and local school system. Hagieemployees are also very proud of their efforts through the "WishesProgram" to help needy families. Station in Forest City. This upgraded facility will aid greatly incommunity safety. General Electric West Burlington, IowaGE has hosted community blood drives and provides manyawareness screenings for their employees. In addition, GE hassponsored many community projects and events. John Deere Des Moines Works Ankeny, IowaThis facility has made a concerted effort to evaluate and improveenergy usage and recycling on the premises. Employees are alsoencouraged to participate in companysponsored volunteer eventsthroughout the community. Monsanto Ankeny, IowaEmployees at the Ankeny Monsanto facility have been active incommunity volunteerism including a "Spirit Team" beautificationproject. The facility also supports programs to teach students aboutthe value and importance of clean water. Monsanto Huxley, IowaStaff members from the Monsanto Huxley facility participate in theLocal Emergency Planning Commission for Story County. Throughthat partnership, a pesticide exposure drill was held to train on masscasualty and HazMat situations. Monsanto employees conducted a"nonfood" drive benefitting their local food pantry collecting papertowels, detergent, personal care items, etc. Proliant Lytton, IowaWhen employees realized that students waiting for the school busacross the street from their plant had no protection from theelements, Proliant donated a shelter to keep the kids safe. Roquette Keokuk, IowaRoquette has worked with local schools to sponsor a kids' safetyposter contest. Through a partnership with Living Lands & Waters,Roquette sponsored Keokuk's Great Mississippi River Cleanup. Over 70 individuals worked to remove garbage from the banks of oneof America's most important waterways. Valero Renewables Fort Dodge, IowaValero employees in Fort Dodge have been active with a variety ofvolunteer activities including Coats for Kids Drive, AdoptAHighway,and installation of playground equipment at a local elementaryschool. In 2013, Valero Fort Dodge employees donated 1838 hoursof service. Van Meter, Inc. Cedar Rapids, IowaAs part of its business planning, Van Meter sets a companywidegoal for volunteer hours donated by employees. The organizationalso donates a percentage of profits to local organizations includingfood banks, health awareness organizations, schools, and many,many more. The IISC Awards Committee, Board of Directors and Staffcongratulate all member organizations on their achievements andthank all applicants for their efforts in making our world a safer placeto live.
