Curriculum for Advanced Training in Gastrointestinal Motility and Functional Disorders

In July 2004, guided by the leadership of Dr. Carlo Di Lorenzo, I developed a curriculum for

fellowship training in gastrointestinal motility and functional disorders. The curriculum was

reviewed by the GME committee and approved early academic year 2004-2005.

The goal of this training program is to prepare pediatric gastroenterologists to perform specialized

studies of gastrointestinal motility and to act as a consultant to other physicians regarding the

evaluation and treatment of children with uncommon gastrointestinal motility disorders or complex

functional disorders.

Page 26: Hayat Mousa, MD, AGAF - Jacobs School of Engineeringjacobsschool.ucsd.edu/uploads/agile_faculty/cv/mousa... · 2016-05-04 · Confidential Page 1 4/29/2016 Hayat Mousa, MD, AGAF Professor

This training program will prepare qualified and motivated pediatric gastroenterologists for

successful academic careers in Pediatric Gastrointestinal Motility and Functional Disorders.

At the completion of the one-year period of training, the motility fellow (MF) will be able to provide

a specialized level of care for children with gastrointestinal functional disorders. Interdisciplinary

Feeding Evaluation Clinic “IFEC”

I coordinated with other disciplines in developing this diagnostic program offering an evaluation of

the safety and efficacy of their swallowing. Joined with Columbus Children’s Hospital professionals

from psychology, speech therapy, occupational therapy and nutrition,

I conduct now weekly feeding clinic in Dublin.

I invited valuable colleagues in different pediatric specialties to meet quarterly in an advisory Board

format. It has been a great success.
