General Announcements

(New) With spring break fast approaching, we wanted to send out a reminder of the Father/Son series of events centered around Tony Dungy’s book, Uncommon. Although we have called this a book study, this won’t be your traditional finger sandwich and tea sit-around-the-living room-dissecting-literature-Oprah-Winfrey event! This six-week initiative is aimed at providing weekly events for fathers and sons focused on the concepts Tony Dungy outlines in his book as we provide opportunities for fathers/sons/mentors/young men to enhance our roles as leaders in the Heath High School community. Due to the numerous requests, we have changed the date to meeting on Thursday evenings. If you are interested in participating, please call Tammy Dilmore at 469-698-2614. The deadline to register is Thursday, March 10. (New) Rockwall-Heath competed in the RHS UIL Academics Invitational Meet this past Saturday, Feb. 26. The following are the results for the students who placed in the top three for an event. Aleks Kochan - 1st in Editorial Writing, 1st in Feature Writing, 3rd in Headline Writing Lydia Moore - 3rd in Feature Writing Julia Horvath - 1st in Headline Writing Beza Woda, Jordan Litherlands, and Collin Abbott - 1st Team in Current Events Collin Abbott - 1st in Current Events Alysha Joseph - 1st in Spelling and Vocabulary Thank you and congratulations to all the teachers and students who participated in this meet!

On Saturday, March 26, 2011, the district will host a hands-on community service event called SSO Day (Students Serving Others). Students will be able to learn about organizations/non-profits and actively participate in service learning throughout Rockwall County. RHHS students would love to help our community! If you know of any business that could benefit from this opportunity, please contact Todd Bradford at [email protected]. As indicated on the 2010-2011 school calendar, the first two bad weather make-up days for all RISD students and staff will be Friday, March 11, and Friday, May 27.

Attendance ProceduresAll absences require written documentation the day a student returns to school. If you are signed up for Family Access, please enter absence notifications through Skyward in lieu of written notes. Family Access applications are available on campus or on the district web site. All parents are encouraged to sign up for this excellent source of information. For questions or for a student's early release, please call 469-698-2601. If your student has athletics 9th period and needs an early release during that time, please call the office by 2:30. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate all parents bringing in forgotten homework, athletic clothes, lunch, etc. Students WILL NOT be notified that they have an item at the front desk. It is their responsibility to check for items left. Instructional time is crucial and we do not want to waste a moment of it! THANK YOU for your understanding.
