Creating Vector DataFor the USGS and NOAA photos Using ArcMap we: • Imported scans of the flightline diagram
• Georeferenced the flightline diagrams
• Added points, and assigned unique ids created during the database populating process
• Imported the spreadsheets (converted to DBFs)
• Using the unique ids in the dbf and the points, did a basic “join” to connect the data we created with the latitude/longitude information• export shape files

• So center points needed to be approximated first
• Using Photoshop, we manually created these center points
• Then imported that image into ArcMap
• then till all the other steps…

-Do not purchase imagery without metadata! -Have a plan for access BEFORE buying the images -Be involved in all stages: planning, purchasing, follow-up, processing and interface building…

-ArcGIS is VERY finicky and particular! -Document, document, document… -Be very open to changing how you process -Keep track of the details/implications -Accept a certain level of approximation

-Open source options out there – geoserver (shp files) -Jpegs versus tiffs – thumbs are important -reduce number of clicks – make it user friendly -Set it up for the long term – how can I display maps?
No amount of server space is enough!
