A MESSAGE FROM HUGH DAVIS CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Dear Menno Haven Family:

Happy July! The warm weather and sunshine at the time of this writing is a nice distraction from the current chaos of American life. As rigid stay-at-home orders have been lifted around the Franklin County area, more people across the region are heading outside. It’s going to be a while before we see elements of life as we knew it — outdoor concerts, festivals, large gatherings — however, being able to get out for a hike or to play a round of golf is a welcome relief. As we head into July and the local economy is firing back up we will have more opportunities to be out and about. As you know we have begun to ease some of our restrictions across the campus and I am hoping this trend will be able to be continued. If you have not seen our re-opening plan it can be found on the resident portal. Locally our COVID-19 numbers continue to improve and should be a cause for some enthusiasm.

As we all know the month of July is home to our very meaningful Independence Day holiday. I love this holiday and all that goes with it; cookouts, hotdogs, hamburgers, fireworks, so much fun! For me, it is easy to get lost in the moment and forget that the virus that causes COVID-19 is still out there and even though current conditions

have improved this situation still require precautions. I want to remind us all of the importance of social distancing, wearing face masks and good hand hygiene. We recommend that each of you consider not participating in any group activities with more than 10 people.

Lastly, I want to take a moment and encourage all of us that better days will come. Let me encourage us all to contemplate the freedom so foundational to our American ideals this Fourth of July holiday. What a backdrop the past 90 days have been to truly cultivate thankfulness to live in this wonderful country. I know freedom in all aspects of life is more precious to me now more than ever. I pray each of us take some time to contemplate a deeper thankfulness this year as we celebrate America's Independence Day. Stay safe,

Hugh

In these challenging times, please rest assured that our God will ALWAYS be present; He will ALWAYS keep His promises; He will

ALWAYS give us HIS peace; He will ALWAYS be a refuge of protection for us; He will ALWAYS provide us with what we need; and prayer is the key that will unlock the door to this storehouse of blessings!

The Presence of GodThe Bible reminds us that God said He would never leave us or forsake us. Even if we don’t “feel” His presence, we can trust His promises.

The Promises of GodGod is a promise keeper. He is truth and He cannot lie. What he says He will do, we can trust Him to perform.

The Peace of GodJesus is the embodiment of peace. There is no real peace without Him. In John 14 Jesus says, “My peace I give to you, not as the world gives give I to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither be afraid.” In Isaiah 26 we read these words, “He will keep you in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”

The Protection of GodIn Psalm 46 David says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we do not need to fear.” We find our protection in God especially during these difficult times.

The Provision of GodGod has promised to provide for our needs. In Matthew 6 Jesus says, “Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink. Look at the birds of the air. Your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Your Heavenly Father knows what you need.” In Philippians 4 it reads, “My God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus.”

Prayer Prayer is open communication with your Heavenly Father who never grows tired of hearing from His children. When an earthly father comes home to his children, he wants to hear everything about their day. Our Heavenly Father delights to hear from us. In Hebrews 4 we find these encouraging words, “Come boldly to the throne of grace that you may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

TIPS FOR TREATING BEE STINGS

For most people getting stung by bee is just an annoyance that can be managed with some simple care, but for

others a serious reaction can occur. The most common and severe reactions are caused from Yellow Jacket Bees and Wasps.

Taking care of a sting:

• After getting stung, if you can see the stinger still in your skin, remove it immediately to decrease the exposure to the bee’s venom. Wash the area as soon as possible with soap and water.

• To relieve swelling, itching and discomfort use a cold compress or ice pack. If the sting occurred on an arm or leg, elevate the limb to help minimize swelling. To relieve itch, apply hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion. If irritation persists try an oral anti-histamine such as Benadryl as well as over the counter pain relievers.

• Try not to scratch. Scratching can worsen the itch and swelling as well as increase your risk for infection.

When it gets serious:

• Watch for severe reactions and seek immediate medical attention if you begin to show signs of hives, flushing or pale skin, have trouble breathing with swelling of throat and tongue, nausea or vomiting, dizziness, fainting or loss of consciousness.

• Multiple stings also need immediate care. If you should be stung more than a dozen times, the venom can accumulate and may induce a toxic reaction.

• Inform your Dr. of any serious reactions you may have after being stung, as he may refer you to an Allergy Specialist who can help you find ways to prevent and manage future reactions. Those found to be allergic to bee stings could be prescribed an EPI pen. Epinephrine pens need to be checked monthly and watched for expiration dates. Some pens are only good for 6 months.

Be careful during these summer months and be aware of your surroundings. The bees are just doing what comes naturally and sometime we humans can cross their paths.

Stay Healthy!

GREEN TEAM NEWS

For the health and safety of all of our residents, we are

canceling this year's Auxiliary Tea. We'll

see you next year for our first Annual Fall

Auxiliary Tea. Plan to be there to celebrate

a beautiful season!

MENNO HAVEN AUXILIARY TEA

Materials from take-out meals: The meals come in non-recyclable containers so they are trash – do not include them in your recyclables. The plastic bags are recyclable, but not by Menno Haven. Either take them to the grocery store and recycle them there, or, keep them and wait until the dining venues are open again, and we will have a collection. Please do not throw them into the trash!

Plastic recycle: Not all #1 and #2 plastics are recyclable. We can only recycle #1 and #2 plastic containers that have a neck smaller than the base. These include water, soda, and salad dressing bottles, milk and detergent jugs, and any other #1 and #2

containers with necks smaller than the base. Therefore, items such as fruit and vegetable containers that are #1 plastics are now trash.

Putting out recycle and trash for collection: All recyclables should be in a recycle container. If you do not have a container, please call Maintenance at (717) 261-2500. Do not put recyclables in a black plastic bag; anything in a black bag will be considered trash. If you put recyclables into a clear plastic bag, it most likely will be collected as recyclables but only if the collector can clearly determine that they are recyclable materials. To help the collectors, you can use a Sharpie pen to label the bag as recyclables.
