COLLECTION:

OBJECTIVE:

Once the eggs are laid, it must be handled with great care. Good hatchability and chick’s quality can be achieved if the hatching eggs are properly handled and stored in optimum condition.

EGG COLLECTION PROCEDURE:

* Hatching eggs should be collected in clean tray at least 6 – 8 times in a day depending on the climatic condition.

* Dirty and soiled eggs should be collected separately.

* The person collecting the eggs to have hand washes in the tap water before starting egg collection. Do not disturb the birds in the nest while collecting the eggs.

* Collected eggs are placed narrow end down in the tray and the bottom tray is to be a double tray.

SELECTION OF HATCHING EGGS:OBJECTIVE: To select the hatching eggs based on the recommended criteria to achieve maximum hatchability and quality chicks.

PROCESS:* Wash the hands thoroughly with disinfectant before handling the eggs.

* First segregate the clean hatching eggs as per selection parameter and keep them in the trays.

Selection parameter of HE – a) 50 gm and above eggs

b) Oval shaped thick shell.

Rejection parameter of HE – a) Thin shelled b) Misshapen eggs c) Mini eggs d) Porous eggs e) Hairline crack eggs f) Crack eggs g) Soiled eggs

h) Jumbo eggs

SELECTION OF HATCHING EGGS:* Separate the soiled eggs and keep them in separate trays.

* Manually record all the details of selected hatching eggs and rejected eggs pen or row wise.

* Avoid shaking of eggs during cleaning

* Do not rub the entire area of the dirty eggs with emery sheet as this will remove the cuticle layer of the eggs which will reduce the hatchability.

* More than 50% of the soiled /dirty eggs to be rejected.

FUMIGATION OF HATCHING EGGS:Objective : Hatching eggs disinfection should be done soon after the eggs are collected when the egg is warm. While the eggs get cool down, bacteria and other contaminants present on the egg surface gets sucked inside.

PROCESS FORMALINE FUMIGATION:

* Dosage recommended is 20 grams of KMnO4 (Potassium permanganate) and 40 ml Formaline per 100 cubic feet.

* The fumigation chamber should be air tight with circulating fan.

* Potassium permanganate is to be added to formaline and not vice versa. Use only plastic tray for proper fumigation of all the eggs (effective air circulation).

* For effective fumigation, the temperature should be more than 21’C with 65% RH. Duration of fumigation should be 15-20 minutes only.

* Fumigation can also be done by heating para formaldehyde flakes.

HATCHING EGGS HANDLING AND STORAGE:* To achieve best hatchability and chicks quality, it is necessary to provide optimum storage conditions to hatching eggs between laying and setting in the incubators.

* After eggs are collected, cleaned, graded and fumigated, should be cooled below 21’C or 70’F. The cell division of hatching egg slows down below 26’C and completely stops below 21’C. Hence improper egg holding as cold room temperature will result in early embryonic mortality.

SPECIFICATION OF COOL ROOMS:

* Well insulated and lined with an impervious material (not allowing fluid to pass through) , which can be easily sanitized.

* The ceiling of the store is approximately 7 feet height from the floor level.

* Three tier racks for good air circulation and better cool room hygiene management.

* The ceiling to be insulated properly.

CONTROL / QUALITY PARAMETER:

* Rat proof measured to be ensured.* 10 ft. X 20 ft. = 200 sq. ft. room for 10,000 birds for 3 days

storage in 3 tier racks.* 2 ton AC for 200 sq. ft. volume.* The area required for cool room is calculated accordingly to

the daily production and number of days storage

COOL ROOM RACKS SPECIFICATION AND CONTROL PARAMETER:

* For every tray one egg should contains flock & lay details at the center of the top tray.

* The racks are of 3.25 feet height, 2.25 feet width and 6 feet length (preferably). Holding capacity 252 trays of 7 trays height. Total egg holding capacity 7560 eggs.

COOL ROOM CLEANING SCHEDULE:

• All the persons who enter in to the cool room should dip the foot in the disinfectant solution.

• Mop the cool room floor using disinfectant solution (Once in 2 hours).

• Spray the disinfectant in the form of Ariel spray (Two times a day)

* FIFO (first in first out) system to be followed while dispatches HE.
