Very few teams emerge from the state high school basketball tournament as champions.Every high school basketball player, though, leaves with memories, some which last 30years or more. That’s the case with the 1983 Thornapple Kellogg basketball team, a group

that got together recently to relive those memories of a season in which they put up a school recordfor games won and during which they advanced all the way to the state semifinal round beforebeing eliminated. Ten former players who got together for a recent 30-year reunion with theircoach, Skip Pranger, and his wife, Char, are (front, from left, holding basketballs) Dave Perry, RonFinkbeiner, Brian Miller, Jeff Kerber, (back) Steve Miller, Chris Noah, Chris Wingeier, and RobPickard. The 9th annual parade will line up in thealley behind WBCH in Downtown Hastings, kicking off at 4pm, marchingdown South Jefferson Street to Center and then dispersing or returning tothe alley via Church Street. You are all invited to watch the parade, or bet-ter yet, to be in the parade. We plan onthe parade to be led by the American Legion Color Guard and include,among others, Mayor Frank Campbell, the Barry Transit Trolley, a fire truckor two, a couple of beauty queens, The Medbug, of course, and new thisyear The Medbike, our official entry in the Barry Roubaix Killer Gravel RoadRace, maybe some music, the Hastings City Bank float, an Irish family ortwo and numerous other entries. Now with the health challenges, she attributes skills learned through her lifelong love of

music in helping her become strong and independent once again. “Concentration,

memorization, coordination and of course pleasure are components learned in music –

all things I am using here.”

Kathryn Mix has been teaching piano students since 1937. She has shared her love of

the piano, and music, teaching students of all ages the discipline of achieving a goal.

She says the staff here is helping her achieve her goal of getting back to her students.

She is glad that, when she needed rehab services, she found help right here, in her

own community.

Soon Kathryn will be home teaching again because she wants to continue making a

difference. Nice job Kate! We will miss you here at Thornapple Manor.
