I will officially retire from the full time call to the Chaska Moravian Church on Monday April 30th and begin a one half time appointment to same on Tuesday May 1. Your joint board will be looking for “all hands on deck” as we move into this new more limited pastoral relationship and lean into more lay leadership in the on goings of the church. The March issue of the Moravian magazine reports at least two other congregations in the Western District that are moving into half time pastorates this month, seems to be a sign of the times. With April being my last month of full time service, I need to use up all of my banked vacation time by the end of the month, so, I’ll be out from April 2 until the 16th. Then, I’ll be back to finish out the final two Sundays the 22nd and 29th and will be here Sunday May 6 to serve Holy Communion and then back for the final session of Early Bird Sunday School on the 20th followed by our “school’s out” church picnic after worship (more to follow). The goal is to follow that pattern of my being in the pulpit on the first and third Sundays of the month and I’ve committed to being in the office every Wednesday and sporadically on other days. Please let Jen know if there is a specific time that you need me or catch me on one of my regularly scheduled days. I will remain on call for hospital visits and pastoral visitation as requested. I’ve attached the history of how we got to this place in time… Today is Holy (Maundy) Thursday, I’ll be going to Auburn Homes and Services to lead the readings for Holy Week and serve communion in the chapel my ministry first began some sixteen years ago. Tonight we’ll gather for our annual combined Maundy Thursday/ Good Friday worship along with Rev. Dean Seal and the good folks from Shepherd of the Hill Presbyterian Church. With a wind chill of 0 degrees predicted for Easter Sunrise, we’ve already officially pulled the plug on gathering at the cemetery but we will still gather in the sanctuary at 7:00 to declare the resurrection. Please join us and stick around for the annual Nathan Huisenga Foundation breakfast fundraiser serving from 7:00 to 9:30, so if you don’t make the sunrise service you can still come for egg bake and Moravian sugar cake to feed your body before the 9:30 worship where we’ll feast upon the glory of the resurrection and the sacrament of Holy Communion! See you there! The Lord is Risen! In His Service, Pastor Mike

It’s official, all of the “T’s” have been crossed and the “I’s” are now dotted. YOU ARE INVITED

I had one more spot in this month’s newsletter to fill (this one), when a lady stopped into the church office with an Easter candy donation for the folks at Launch Ministry downstairs. She told me the following story:

While shopping at Hy-Vee this morning, they found the Easter candy had been marked down to $1.00/bag. The woman & her granddaughter had fun picking out 100 bags of candy. When they checked out, the cashier joked about the time it would take them to fill eggs with all that candy. The woman & her granddaughter explained they were going to donate the candy to local organizations & spread some Easter blessings to others in the community. The woman behind them in line, overheard the excitement of the granddaughter & said, “I love this idea! I want to pay for your candy you’re sharing.” So, she did. The grandma & granddaughter came back to Chaska. They brought some candy up to Bountiful Baskets, left some in the Little Free Pantry outside CMC, and brought some inside to share with Launch Ministry. What a wonderful way to bring some joy to our neighbors who may not experience these opportunities, and a great reminder that when we share God’s love, it grows & grows!

About the Foundation: The Nathan Huisenga Foundation is a non-profit corporation established in his memory for the purpose of enabling recovery school graduates to achieve academic success, and thereby positively impacting the community. We recognize the accomplishments of these students and the amount of effort it has taken them to achieve this milestone in their lives. These scholarships will provide some financial assistance to students continuing their education after high school. The funds for the scholarships come from donations and fundraising efforts. The money raised will be applied directly to the scholarships. A portion will be invested to provide additional scholarship funds in the future.

The plant in the sanctuary on Palm Sunday was placed by The Moravian Women, in loving memory of those in our congregation who have gone to be with the Lord during the past year. The Moravian Church would like to remember: Warren Ekstrom, Thelma Schoen, Deb Zwart & Bernice Barris.
