What are #Hashtags

Hashtag – A hashtag is a tag used on the social networks, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, as a way to annotate a message. A hashtag is a word or phrase preceded by a “#.” Example: #yourhashtag. Hashtags are commonly used to show that a tweet (a Twitter message) is related to an event or conversation, online or offline.

How they are used

• Hashtags are used as a single word, no matter how many words are in the phrase: #MelissasProduce

• If you click on a hashtag, it will bring up other conversations using that same hashtag. See Example 1

• Companies promote hashtags as a way to get consumers to talk to them and about them, essentially creating one big conversation. See Example 2

• Broad hashtags could be used to incorporate our brand into existing conversations
