B. ConcurrentRequirements

(1) Additionalservicedocumentsmayapplytothecomponents/propellersaffectedbythisServiceBulletin.CompliancewithadditionalservicedocumentsmaybenecessaryinconjunctionwiththecompletionoftheAccomplishmentInstructionsinthisServiceBulletin.RefertotheHartzellPropellerwebsiteatwww.hartzellprop.comforacross-referenceofservicedocuments.

C. Reason

(1) HartzellPropellerInc.hasreceivedreportsofoilleaksintothepropellerhubattheengine-sidepitchchangerodbore.

(a) Scoringofthepitchchangerodboreisonetypeofdamagethatcanleadtoaleakatthislocation.

(b) Anoilleakatthislocationcanleadtohubpressurizationandhydrauliclock,causingthepropellertooperateasafixedpitchpropelleratthelowpitchbladeanglesetting.

(2) TheDelrin®bushingmodificationrequiredbythisServiceBulletinwillimprovethereliabilityofthesealatthepitchchangerodbore.

(a) Themodificationincludesreworkoftheengine-sidehubboreandinstallationofanewDelrin®bushingwithaspiralretainingring,inaccordancewiththeexistingrepairproceduresintheAluminumHubOverhaulchapterofHartzellStandardPracticesManual202A(61-01-02).RefertoTable1forthepartnumbersspecifictotheaffectedpropellermodel.

(3) AircraftmodelsidentifiedbythisServiceBulletinaresuspectedofbeingsensitivetothemaintenanceoflevelflightwhenthepropellerisatthelowpitchbladeanglesettingandtheaircraftisbeingflownatbestglideairspeed.RefertoFAASpecialAirworthinessInformationBulletinCE-10-21andcontacttheaircraftmanufacturerforadditionaldetails.

(4) Regulatoryactionisexpected.

(5) CompletionoftheAccomplishmentInstructionsisterminatingactionforthisService Bulletin.

D. Description

(1) ThisServiceBulletinrequiresmodificationoftheengine-sidehubhalfoftheaffectedhubstoincorporatetheDelrin®bushingandspiralretainingringspecifiedinTable1inaccordancewiththeexistingrepairproceduresintheAluminumHubOverhaulchapterofHartzellStandardPracticesManual202A(61-01-02).





E. Compliance

(1) AffectedpropellersthathavenotbeenmaintainedinaccordancewiththescheduleidentifiedinHartzellServiceLetterHC-SL-61-61Y,mustcompletetheAccomplishmentInstructionsofthisServiceBulletinwithin200flighthours,within12calendarmonths,oratnextmajordisassembly,whicheveroccursfirst.

(2) AffectedpropellersthathavebeenmaintainedinaccordancewiththescheduleidentifiedinHartzellServiceLetterHC-SL-61-61Y,mustcompletetheAccomplishmentInstructionsofthisServiceBulletinatnextmajordisassemblyorwithintheapplicablelimitationsforbothflighthoursandcalendartimesspecifiedinHartzellServiceLetterHC-SL-61-61Y,whicheveroccursfirst.

NOTE1:Aluminumhubpropellermajordisassemblyisdefinedasanyrepairthatrequiresthehubhalvestobeseparated.

B. Disassembly,inspection,andassemblyofthepropellerandpropellerhubmustbeperformedbyanFAAcertified,orinternationalequivalent,propellerservicefacility.

C. Inspecttheengine-sidehubhalfforpresenceofaDelrin®bushinginaccordancewithHartzellStandardPracticesManual202A(61-10-02).

(1) Ifnobushingisvisible,proceedtosection3.D.todisassembleforinternalinspection.

(2) Ifanaluminumbushingisvisible,proceedtosection3.D.todisassembleformodification.

(3) IfaDelrin® bushingisinstalled,furtheractionisnotrequired.Proceedtosection3.H.

D. DisassemblethepropellerinaccordancewithHartzellCompactandLightweightCompactNon-Feathering(-1)andAerobatic(-4)PropellerOverhaulandMaintenanceManual113B(61-10-13).
