It’s their final year of high school and the senior class of Rydell High is in rare form. The slick, duck tailed greasers, the “Burger Palace Boys” are stealing hub-caps and acting tough. Their gum-snapping, hip-swaying, counterparts the “Pink Ladies” are sporting bobby socks and pedal pushers ready to take on the world.

The 1950s high school dream is about to explode in this rollicking musical that is both a homage to the idealism of the

fifties and a satire of high schoolers’ age-old desire to be rebellious, provocative and defiant. At the heart of the story is the romance between hot-rodding gangster Danny Zuko and the sweet new girl in town, Sandy Dumbrowski. Their secret summer romance now must survive all that high school has to throw at it. With peer-pressure and cliques complicating their love story, Danny attempts to retain his status as the cool dude on campus while still making the demure Sandy his girl.

With the whole gang dancing and singing around Danny and Sandy’s romance, with hit songs such as “Greased Lightnin”, “We Go Together”, and “Mooning”, the show harkens back to the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. Starting off with an eight-year Broadway run, Grease is among the world’s most popular musicals and has a cult-like following that embraces all generations.

Need a laugh? Enjoy pithy orange puns and citrusy sarcasm?

Then look no further than the Senior School play, The Love of Three Oranges.

Adapted from a Commedia dell arte scenario by Carlo Gozzi and modernised by Hillary DePiano, here’s some fruit for thought.

Tartaglia is not half the prince he juiced to be. The King has given him the pip. He is a lonely hypochondriac who has lost his zest for life at the Palace and is cursed by an evil witch, twice. He must go on a quest with his new found friend, Truffaldino to find three gigantic oranges. This journey squeezes more out of him than you can imagine but it does prove fruitful. He finds friendship and laughter as he encounters a wind god, a wizard and a donkey.

Nonetheless, will the architect of his inability to concentrate, Creonta, let him keep the fruits of his labour, claim the throne and a fruity princess? Or will he be squeezed to a pulp, one segment at a time and discarded at half time with the juice running out of him?

Come with us into a world of imagination.

Based on the famous novel by Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory features an original score composed by Marc Shaiman with lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray) and a book by David Greig. The score also pays homage to the Leslie Bricusse/Anthony Newley score from the 1971 film with songs from the motion picture including

“Candy Man,” “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket,” “Oompa Loompa Song,” and “Pure Imagination.”

The world-famous Willy Wonka is opening the gates to the mysterious factory…but only to a lucky few. Young Charlie Bucket and four other golden ticket winners will embark on a life-changing journey through Wonka’s world of pure imagination including chocolate waterfalls, nutty squirrels and the

great glass elevator, all to be revealed by Wonka’s army of curious Oompa-Loompas.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is your golden ticket to producing a crowd-pleasing, outrageous ensemble musical with plenty of delicious roles.

The Hart Theatre Company (HTC) was launched in 2012 with the opening of Barnum performed in a Big Top on the front

oval. Over the past eight years the company has gone from strength to strength and grown in stature within the community. It has offered theatrical opportunities to hundreds of students and drawn in professional theatre practitioners to our production teams who embrace innovative production concepts. With two award-winning musicals to its credit and a swag of awards and nominations for its musicals at both the Middle and Senior

School levels, the St Leonard’s College Hart Theatre Company has proven it is a force to be reckoned with.

The company is named after Mrs Roma Hart, the first Speech and Drama teacher to stage a production at the College. Mrs Hart gave us our foundation; all those who come to ‘play’ with us give us our ability to soar.

It is the aim of the St Leonard’s College Hart Theatre Company to provide all those in the College community who participate in the program with a platform to build confidence as young performers, theatre practitioners, musicians, dancers and scenic artists. Hart Theatre Company looks to

foster growth through involvement while creating an environment where unique and creative vision is applied to productions with passion, dedication, fearlessness and inclusion.

St Leonard’s College Hart Theatre Company’s vision sees a future in which

the expression of dramatic art is embraced and encouraged in the spirit of professional theatre. The Hart Theatre Company is a place where performance skills are tools for communication and lateral thinking brings applause.
