out up to 5 scholarships of $1,000.00 each. If you know of students, who are island residents, have them apply. Sheriff's Report Beware the trains are running in town again. Commissioners are reluctant to give a raise to the Deputies, they

are now 30% behind like counties. Fire District 5 2009 breakdown of calls for the island, 102 total. 64 EMS, 5 MVA (2 injury, 3 non-injury), -10 fire/burning issues,

23 general assistance. CPR will be offered Thurs, 2/18 6 p.m. at Station 9. New Paramedics and EMTs at Pickering station, hope to eventually have round the clock personel at this station. $100.00 to both HICC and Sr. Lunch from latest can recycling .

Sheriff's Report Recently 2 men were apprehended at Harstine Point. Some of the prisoners have been released from the jail due to space and staff issues.

Fire District 5 Boxes from Aluminum cans collection have been placed at the fire stations on the island and at the point. Last collection brought in $1100.00 with was distributed to 13 orqanizations. Non-Ferrous metals are also accepted.

Community Report Club/Community Report Theater Club No Report. Garden Club No Report Women's Club No Report Sheriff's Report There was a beautiful memorial in Washington DC for fallen officers . There is a Chaplain's Service in the

sheriff's office that is available to all citizens 24 hours a day to help with grief counsel ing, faith counseling , and anything other that is needed. Contributions are needed to support this service.

Fire District 5 There are CERT classes to be offered in June at the Matlock grange. The aluminum from donations was sold and $1300 was received. It has been distributed including $100 to HICC and $1 00 to HIWC. A full report will be given later.

Granqe No report. Senior Lunch Thanksqivinq dinner will be served Wednesday 5/19. HI Chorus The chorus thanked islanders for their support. A German choir will be hosted by the Harstine Island chorus.

North Island Drive Closure There will be road work at Jarrel Creek starting July 15. Expected to last 7 weeks. A new culvert will be placed to aid in fish habitat.

Program State Parks Department - Misha Cowles, I A program was presented by the Parks Park Ranger and Rod Sterling, Park Department. Ranger

Still need one couple for December 10 meeting and Christmas dinner. More information will be forthcoming.

Access to the Community Hall will be only from the South if coming from the bridge.

There are several parks under the direction of the rangers at Jarrell Cove State Park. They are Squaxin Island which is closed, Harstine Island, Hope Island, Eagle Island which is rented from the BLM and only has buoys, Stretch Point which is a beach only, McMicken Island which has buoys and the new Scott property which abuts Harstine Is. State Park. There are projects on McMicken Island. They include reclaiming the meadows, rehabilitating the old cabin which will become an open air shelter and reclaiming the windmill through a rebuild.

MASON COUNTY CEMETERY DISTRICT There is going to be an election related to forming a Mason County Cemetery District. Many cemeteries are in dire financial straits. On the ballot there will be a measure to form a district and to tax the residents of Mason County for cemetery upkeep. Such a district does not mean the county will take over our cemetery, but it does mean we will have to pay taxes to care for other cemeteries.

The program was presented by Fire District 5 members. Tim McKern and Dave Salzer honored Fred Allinson for his work as a volunteer fireman in King County where he rose to Battalion Chief. In addition Eric Moore made a presentation about the Fire District offering CERT (Citizen Emergency Response Team) training. To attend such training folks need to plan on two Saturdays and one Sunday. It includes a CPR update. Questions were answered about District 5 annexing the Shelton Fire Department.

Our program was a Holiday Theme with three parts. First was a reading by Judy Moore of the Latka that Couldn't Stop Screaming, a Christmas Story by Lemony Snicket. Second was Carols lead by Jim Irish with Judy Moore as accompanist. Third was a reading by Dudley and Anne Panchot of A Poem by Clement Moore. Happy Holidays to all.
