Dear Church Family,

I know that as you read this note, I’m already on my renewal leave (June 17 through July 17) and plan to be back in the office on July 18.

One thing I have been thinking about a lot these days are relationships, which are very hard, and take a lot of work to make them go the way we want. The foundation to establish healthy relationships consists of these four components according to me: love, respect, integrity, and trust. When relationships lack at least one of the four, they become fragile and very unstable.

To help you visualize what I am talking about is to think of a four-leg table (or chair). When you take any of the four legs out, the table (or the chair) becomes unstable. Any little pressure on the table can make it fall and possibly break to the point of no repair.

I love when Paul talks about love in 1 Corinthians 13, verses 4 through 8. He looks at love as the most excellent way to live as a member of the body of Christ (see chapter 12). Love helps establish some ground for the other three: trust, respect, and integrity.

The above four relationships' components apply to the Church too. As you know, I was at Annual Conference last month (June) with Neal and Rebecca Luitjens, we, United Methodists have been struggling with love, trust, respect, and integrity. The root cause of this struggle is our Biblical approach to the four elements of relationships with God and each other. Go to my blog, www.emmanuelnaweji.com, and you will find an article I published a day before the annual conference.

"How to resolve all of this?" I am glad you asked! First, start with God. God is love (1 John 4: 7-21). God can show us how to love

each other. You see what God wants you to see or hear only when your spiritual eyes and ears are open. God can help you with all that through prayer and scripture reading. Second, rethink your boundaries and decide how to use them to help you establish healthy relationships and maintain the ones you already have. Last, but not least, surround yourself with sound and God-fearing people. Bad company corrupts good character, which implies the ability to love, trust, respect, and live with integrity (1 Corinthians 15:37 NIV).

That's what I want us all to work on this month, and at the same time allowing God to melt, mold and fill us with the Holy Spirit. We can only do all things through Christ, who can strengthen us to do so (Philippians 4:13).

Happy Fourth of July to you and your family! Pastor Emmanuel Pastor Emmanuel is on renewal leave.

He will be back in the office July 18.

Here we are. It’s already July and that promise you made to yourself in

January to read more hasn’t been fulfilled. Not to worry. Here are a few newly

donated books that are available in the church library. And, if these don’t pique your

interest there are plenty more on the shelves. Come take a look!

Deb Morrow, Church Librarian

Barbara Johnson is no longer with us, but her books live on. So, Stick a

Geranium in Your Hat and be Happy! reminds us that life isn’t always what you want,

but it’s what you’ve got. She can help you look for the little sparkles in life, even in

the middle of some of life’s most crippling sorrows. He’s Gonna Toot and I’m Gonna

Scoot: Waiting for Gabriel’s Horn concentrates on the humor and laughter in facing

new challenges and putting life’s trials into a heavenly perspective.

Book number two of the Patchwork Mysteries is now available. Time to Share

by Jo Ann Brown “sews/ties up plenty of loose ends” as protagonist, Sarah Hart, uses

her skills in quilting and applies that knack for piecing fabric to solving a mystery.

Creative Woman Mysteries - “Join Shannon McClain and the members of

the Purls of Hope knitting circle in Apple Grove, Oregon, as they unravel the

mysteries that touch their lives and the lives of those they care about in their

quaint coastal town. In their sleuthing adventures, the women will find danger,

intrigue, and even romance. They will unearth dark secrets some would rather stay

buried. But they will also make heartwarming discoveries that change their lives

forever. Follow Shannon and her friends as they uncover clues and solve mysteries,

and let their heart-pounding adventures keep you on the edge of your seat.”
