Love is in the aircan you tell? Our February issue is dedicated to love and some of the fabulous

people and things that we cant get enough of this season, from our cover girl, Miranda Kerr (page 178),

who shares her dating secrets, to our editors picks of the best in fashion, accessories, and beauty (which youll see

highlighted with the Bazaar Loves ticker). Speaking of love, Valentines Day marks the anniversary of Danielle Steels

engagement to the man of her dreams (page 132). Further fueling our appetite for amore, Martha Stewart serves

up her recipe for romance (page 136), and Naomi Campbell doles out her own brand of love advice (page 86). As Naomi says,

Valentines Day needs to be every day of the year. We couldnt agree more. Enjoy the issue.

  • SEEING CHANGES

    AS YOUR SKIN AGES?

    THE TRUTH

    YOUR SKIN COULD BE

    LOSING VOLUME.

    LOSS OF SKIN VOLUME

    CREATES WRINKLES.

As your skin ages, its moisture level drops, and skin loses fullness.

    WHAT IS

    HYALURONIC ACID?

    A naturally occurring substance

    in skin, it maintains moisture

it actually can bind up to 1,000X

its weight in water! and in turn,

skin volume. The decrease in skin

    volume causes more pronounced

lines and wrinkles, less rounded cheeks,

and hollows under the eye area.

    NOW LORAL INTRODUCES

    REVITALIFT VOLUME FILLER.

    Formulated with our highest

dose of Hyaluronic Acid, Volume Filler

    provides intense moisture: helps restore

fullness to skin so lines and wrinkles are

    visibly smoother, cheekbones appear

    more rounded, and under-eye area

    is less hollowed.

    SEE AND FEEL

    THE DIFFERENCE.

Run your hands over your face and

feel a smoother, more even surface.

    Your skin?

    De nitely a more

    youthful look.

    And best of all,

    you can see results

    in just 4 weeks.

    EDITORS LETTER

    Glenda Bailey

    on gift giving

AS VALENTINES DAY approaches, my thoughts have

turned to gift giving, a subject Im quite passionate

about. No matter the present, the key is delivering it with love

Im a firm believer that it truly is the thought that counts.

The most wonderful gift I ever received was from my beloved,

Stephen Sumner. He knows how much I cherish

books, so he took the time to make me a tape recording of himself

reading aloud one of my favorite short stories, William

Boyds The Care and Attention of Swimming Pools, to bring along to the

collections in Europe. It really was a labor of love. (He later

revealed that hed recorded it twice, after he ran out of tape on

his first attempt. He had to pick up the pace

on his reading, but whats more touching than taking time?) Another great gifter,

my friend Manfred Kuhnert, happens to be among the best-read people

I know. He gave me a delivery subscription from Londons legendary Heywood Hill bookstore.

Every month I look forward to receiving those beautifully wrapped parcels

finished with a signature grosgrain ribbon. The shop itself has a storied past:

Novelist Nancy Mitford worked there during World War II, and it is owned by the

12th Duke of Devonshire. Its a true national treasure. Best of all,

though, the stores expert staff custom-curates a selection of books to send

monthly, based on your giftees interests. As I made my lists this year, it struck me how perfect

this service would be for Bazaar readers, who are smart, worldly, curious, and, most of all,

thoughtful. So Im excited to announce that ShopBAZAAR is venturing

beyond fashion to offer an array of

bespoke gift options in collaboration with my

favorite London booksellerwith love, of course,

    from Bazaar.

    Love LETTERS

    D E A R N A O M I

DEAR NAOMI: This is my first Valentines Day with my

boyfriend, so I want to do something nice for him but not

go over-the-top and freak him out. Any suggestions?

    Just-O.K. Cupid

DEAR JUST-O.K. CUPID: Do dinner, cook something spe-

cial, create a romantic atmosphere in the bedroom or around

the bath but Valentines Day needs to be every day of the

year. Flowers should be given all the time.

    Love & Light, Naomi

DEAR NAOMI: My husband is a flirt. I know hes faithful,

but it drives me crazy. How do I make him stop?

    Not Charmed

DEAR NOT CHARMED: Give him some of his own medicine

and see how he likes it. Have confidence in yourself, and see if

that changes anything. If it doesnt, hes not right for you anyway.

    Love & Light, Naomi

DEAR NAOMI: I met the perfect guy, except that I just found

out hes 10 years younger than I am. My friends are teasing

me about being a cougar, but does age really matter?

    The Accidental Huntress

DEAR ACCIDENTAL HUNTRESS: If you like the guy and

you have a strong bond, dont think twice about what other

    people say. Theyre probably jealous!

    Love & Light, Naomi

DEAR NAOMI: My boyfriend and I broke up when I dis-

covered that he was cheating on me with a friend, and now

our whole social circle knows about it. How can I move on

    and preserve my dignity?

    Cuckolded in Chicago

DEAR CUCKOLDED: Ignore him. Treat the situation with

silence. Dont utter his name from your mouth. Its painful,

I know, but true silence will make him irrelevant in your

life. As for the friends who choose him over you, edit them

    out of your life too.

    Love & Light, Naomi

DEAR NAOMI: I recently ended a relationship that wasnt

working for me. A week later, another guy who Ive always

liked asked me out. What should I do? I want to say yes, but

Im worried that my ex will be hurt.

To Date or Not to Date

DEAR TO DATE: Go for it! You werent happy with what

you had, so now youve unlocked the energy, and that has

attracted someone who is suited for you. Its okay; dont be

    hard on yourself. Enjoy it.

    Love & Light, Naomi

DEAR NAOMI: Ive been with my partner for five years, and

I want him to just bite the bullet and propose. What can I

    do to convince him?

Putting a Ring on It (Hopefully)

DEAR PUTTING A RING ON IT: You shouldnt have to

convince anyone after five yearsjust walk. Take a sabbatical

from him and see what happens.

    Love & Light, Naomi

DEAR NAOMI: I think my boyfriend is cheating, but I dont

want to confront him without evidence. I know its wrong

to look at his phone, but I need to find out. Should I do it?

    Nantucket Nancy Drew

DEAR NANCY: Be honest with yourself. Have there been

any real signs or are you just being paranoid? Talk to him

about it today, and dont waste your time on a man with a

    wandering eye.

    Love & Light, Naomi

DEAR NAOMI: I love nothing more than to text men when

I start dating themI could go on like that all day. My friends

say I need to dial it back. How many texts is too many?

    Text Maniac, Los Angeles

DEAR TEXT MANIAC: Its important to leave him wanting

more. If he texts, reply; if he doesnt text, dont text him. One

text is too many if he didnt text you first.

    Best-Dressed List,

    go to

    BAZAAR.COM

Apparently thats what many of my favorite style stars were thinking recentlyand how convenient, as Valentines Day approaches.

Two fashion veterans, NICOLE KIDMAN and KATE MOSS, went scarlet in very different ways: the former in a custom-made Louis Vuitton

sheath dress embroidered with Monogram symbols and finished off with a spiky belt, and the latter in a vampy sheer Halfpenny London

gown over a leopard-print leotard. DAKOTA FANNING looked flapper-iffic in fringed suede Valentino, RITA ORA bared her midriff in a

Dsquared2 suit, and ANJA RUBIK showed some serious leg in a slit-to-there Michael Kors dress. Meanwhile, CAROLINE SIEBER (in Dior),

MARION COTILLARD (in Dior Haute Couture), and KATE BOSWORTH (in Boss) kept it classic in their strapless numbers.

And RACHEL McADAMS, in Romona Keveza, caught my eye with an asymmetrical, shoulder-baring dress and her megawatt smile.

The Chlo creative directors life by the numbers

    -year-old dachshund

    pairs of shoes

    ,000+books

7:00 A.M. When I wake I check to see where

my dog, Harry, is. Hes a mini dachshund, and often

sleeps right next to my bed. Hes kind of old now15so

he doesnt hear me, and if Im not careful, Ill accidentally tread

on him and hell jump up like a horse. He gets a shampoo and

blowout once a month, but he hates it. Now because hes a bit

slower, hes like a vacuum across the park when we walk him; his fur

picks up everything. I make him food twice a week, couscous and fresh chicken. He is a very well-kept

dog. Then I go and check on the children because normally one of them is still asleep. Ive got twins, Amelia

and Charlotte, who are 11, and a little one, Harrison, whos three. 7:15 A.M. Im off into the kitchen getting

the kids breakfast. They change what theyre interested in more or less every day. So it may be something quite

French like pain au chocolat or a baguette with Nutella, or they might go for a peanut butter sandwich or cereal

its a whole revolving list of breakfast opportunities. Ill have a cup of tea while Im with them, and then a fresh fruit

juice with vitamins. 7:30 A.M. I do a fast shower, never more than five minutes. I use Aesop and SkinCeuticals prod-

ucts; and a lot of organic things, like Dr. Jacksons, a British brand; and these French liquid vitamins in glass vials they sell

here in Paris. I dont do a lot of makeup. Its some quick Laura Mercier cover stick and mascara. I really am low-maintenance

when it comes to all that. I tend to overbuy on creams, though. Its a very French attitudethe skin is the most important

thing. 7:45 A.M. I think of what Im going to wear the night before, or it takes me forever. Id love to be like a guy who

can just pick up a pair of pants and a shirt every day and off you go, but it takes a little more effort for a woman in this job.

I have about 25 Chlo blouses, a series of grays and neutrals. With shoes, its insane. Its terrible to name the number, but its

probably around 130 pairs. 8:15 A.M. I walk Harrison to school. Hes always in a bouncy mood, talking about the things

on the streetthe birds in the park or the diggers or things like that. Its refreshing to have that innocent perspective in the

morning and not have to think about the day ahead. The one other time I get any exercise is on Saturday morning. I play

tennis in the woods at nine oclock come rain, snowanything. 8:25 A.M. I drop Harrison off, jump in a taxi, and

head to the office. Thats really the first time I look at e-mail. We have a rule at home that we dont have any kind of

electronics at the kitchen table. Otherwise you can end up being like a zombie. I give my husband, Philip, a call

because I might not have seen him. Occasionally Ill go on Instagram. I mostly follow friends and a lot of fashion

people, Michel Gaubert, and a few surfers. My girls and I do a surf trip every summer, usually in Cornwall and

a bit in California, where the big waves are and the cold water. I dont really like the sun so much; it becomes

irritating. I much prefer the cold weather. 9:00 A.M. When I arrive at the office, I check to see what

I have on. At the beginning of the week, its normally a meeting with my CEO. Then I come down

to the studio and we start working through the season. We recently launched a new fragrance,

LoveStory. When were working on fragrance projects, theres a day that they come in with

the different formulas. We do an initial test where you spray it, smell it, and give reac-

tions, then they take it away and come back a week later. During that week

you will have worn it at different times to get a feeling of how it

changes. 1:00 P.M. Were in France, so lunch is at one

oclock on the dot. Everybody vanishes and

you cannot get ahold of THIS

  • anyone. Sometimes I eat with

friends at a restaurant called Market, with colleagues in the

office, or at my desk. I have something light, local, and organicmostly

salad. This is normally the time of day that I can answer e-mail again and get my

phone calls. I just have one iPhone, and everythings on itits like a traveling library.

I get inspired by all sorts of things, like a fantastic David Shrigley installation I saw recently. Hes

hilarious. I just did something with Jenny Saville; I collect a lot of contemporary British artists, and

Im often at the Palais du Tokyo here in Paris. 2:30 P.M. I have my days very structured, so I know ex-

actly which day is for which area, like one that is just accessories and one that is just fittings. Maybe its a British

thing, but I always have a big cup of tea around. I hate coffee. If Im in Paris on the weekend, I love to go to the

flea markets. Im not too bad at bargainingI can be quite charming. Recently I bought a beautiful Murano glass lamp.

The style of my home is quite eclectic. I have everything from 18th century to 1960s to contemporary furniture, wicker

chairs, and rope stools. I also love driving for hours. I have a very old four-by-four thats starting to cave in, so Im looking

to get a Land Rover. The only time I get to listen to music is in the car. Its a mix, from Coldplay to Neil Young, the

Eagles, Wilco, Portishead, Oasis, and Carly Simon. When I have my kids in the backseat, theirs is more Lady Gaga, Taylor

Swift, Ellie Goulding, Rihanna, Lily Allen 9:35 P.M. I call my mom in the cab on the way home. She loves

to talk about astrology and tell me what she saw in my sign this week. 10:00 P.M. When I come home late,

Ill eat something light like fruit and have a glass of red wine, which is perfect to get that light buzz so Im

completely relaxed. Im not someone who likes alcohol on a big scale. If I get home at a normal time,

Ill eat with my husband. Ill cook farro and usually something vegetable-basedI havent eaten red

meat in 25 yearsor sometimes Im super happy to have eggs and toast. Philip is an architect,

and he works a lot at home and travels to England once a week. Well eat and hell tell

me about his day and have a family catch-up. 10:30 P.M. I finish putting the children

to bed and try to give myself that last hour. I dont get to look at books or

magazines as much as Id like to, but I love shopping for them. I read fash-

ion magazines at workall the major titles, plus the trade papers, and a

few niche magazines like Holiday, The Gentlewoman, and Self Servicebut

at home I read other stuff. Ive been collecting books for 15 years,

so I have several thousand. I like finding first editions, rare

books, and funky, strange onesbooks of American T-shirts

and books on wood that might kick-start a collection.

11:30 P.M. My bedroom is quite cozy and simple, mostly

grays and whites. Theres a fireplace, a mirror, a modern

portrait, and one 18th-century portrait above an Indian

dresser. Philip laughs at me that I always like having the

TV on but never watch it. I like doing a lot of things

at the same timeI might have a magazine next

to me and Ill be going through the Internet

and checking my phone. I guess thats why

I dont have problems going to sleep,

because Im so intense looking at

stuff during the day that when

Im on the pillow, Im out.

    As told to Christine

    Whitney

I f Im in Paris on the weekend, I love to go to the ea markets.

Im not too bad at bargaining I can be quite charming.

    FASHION MEETS

    CULTURE

I GOT INTO LEATHER at the age of 50, when

I started riding motorcycles again. A big part of riding

safely is wearing the right protective clothes, so I went to

a Harley-Davidson store and bought a bunch of leather gear.

Then I started making it more of a fashion statement, and

I went online and ordered some leather tops and caps. My wife

is a costume designer, and she said, Why dont you just make

your own leather gear and get it over with? So I started doing

sketches, and I found a very good tailor who only does leather stuff

for motorcycle guys. That was about five or 10 years ago, and now

I design all of my own clothes, even my caps. Id tell you my hat-

makers name, but it took me 10 years to find him, so its a secret.

When you look in my closet, youll see five leather tops and about

six pairs of leather pants and boots. Thats it. Someone once looked

in there and said, Oh, my God! And I said, What did you expect

to find, a pair of plaid shorts? When Im riding and I catch my

reflection in a window, Im like, Dude, you look good. The airport

security guards at JFK started calling me the black leather dude,

and if they can remember me out of the 10,000 people they see

every day, then I guess I make an impression. Ive gotten serious

offers from three very nice brands to do capsule collections, but

I would never do that because I dont want anyone else to look

like me. As told to Charlotte Cowles Peter Marino is the subject

    Danielle Steels latest novel,

Prodigal Son, comes out this month

    I HAVE HAD

my high and low points with

Valentines Day. The low being in third

grade when I didnt get a Valentine, and the

high being some 20 years later, six weeks after

I started dating an absolutely dazzling man I had admired

from afar for years. We knew each other as friends, and on

New Years Day in 1981 he took me to lunch, and I was a goner.

John Traina was without a doubt the most handsome man Id ever

laid eyes on, the most elegant, charming, and one of the nicest. Two

decades older than I, and in his prime, he was one of the most sophis-

ticated men I had ever met. I felt like a fairy princess when I was with

him, and we led what appeared to be a fairy-tale life. And like all good

fairy tales, it had a Happily Ever After for a long time.

It began in San Francisco, on New Years Day, at a restaurant where

we ate souffls, and reached a high point on Valentines Day. It had

been a whirlwind romance. We were both divorced, and each had two

children. And we were out almost every day and night for those six

    weeks before Valentines Day, when

we met at a French restaurant for

    lunch. I was thoroughly enjoying

my time with him; it seemed like a

dream come true. And I almost fell

off my seat when he proposed.

    Wow!!! Disappointment in third

    grade faded from memory forever!

I was thrilled and bowled over by

his proposal, and he gave me a

    discreet little diamond heart

necklace that I still wear today.

    No fairy tale is complete

    without a few complications

    and comedic moments. I was

    giving a Valentine Dance that

    night, to which John was

    invitedand we both had

    other dates for the evening,

    arranged long before.

    Oops! And now we

    were engaged. We

    decided not to tell

    anyone until

    the next day,

    and to get

    through the

    evening politely with

    our respective dates. His

was a nice woman who had a

crush on him. Mine was a man

Id been dating for six months, who

cheated on me regularly, and who

had informed me before Christmas that

I was sweet but he didnt love me and

never would, and then he took off for a

six-week ski holiday with another woman,

but failed to mention it. I found out

anyway (hence my agreeing to go out with John on New Years Day).

My date was returning in time for my Valentine Dance, but the rela-

tionship was pretty much over. I was in high spirits the night of the

dance because of Johns proposal. I had never been happier in my life

(and was wearing a new red Halston dress for the occasion).

John and I were inseparable that night. We were not attentive to

our respective dates, and it was obvious to all that we were very

much in love. And then we very properly left with our dates at the

end of the evening. Mine thought I had been pining for him while

he was off skiing for six weeks with someone else, and I happily

told him at the end of the evening that I was getting married.

He looked stunned, which was one of the high points of my

dating life (revenge is sweet!!!). And the next day John and

I announced our engagement. We were married four

months later, on June 14th. Seventeen extremely happy

years of marriage and five wonderful children followed,

for a total of nine children between us. Many, many

years later, we divorced, but remained close forever.

He remains the most dazzling man I ever knew.

And when I think of the happiest

moments in my life, that Valentines Day

when he proposed remains top of the

    list. And all things considered,

I can honestly say even now, we

got more than our fair share

    of Happily Ever After.

    May you have a won-

    derful Valentines

    Day too! And

    may all your

    dreams come

    true!

    WHATS A FOOLPROOF

    ROMANTIC GESTURE FOR A

    VALENTINES DAY DINNER?

To set the mood, find out

    what your Valentines favorite

flower is, and build from that

    to create a fresh, personalized

bouquet to bring as a gift.

    ANY GO-TO VALENTINES DAY

    GIFT RECOMMENDATIONS?

One of my favorite gifts to

give is an iPad fully loaded

    with my favorite movies

    such as The Duchess and

    Anna Kareninaand great

    TV shows like House of

    Cards, Scandal, and The

Blacklist. I keep them in all

    the guest rooms in my

    house, and people love it.

    WHERE DO YOU BUY

    GIFTS ONLINE?

    I shop online at Macys,

Il Gufo, and Maki, and Im

    always seeking out new sites.

I also love to visit 1stdibs.com

    for inspiration.

    IS IT EVER APPROPRIATE TO

    SHARE ONES RELATIONSHIP

    STATUS ON SOCIAL MEDIA?

    I dont use social media

    to discuss my personal

relationships, but if I were to

    get engaged I would happily

    use Facebook and all the

    other social media platforms

    to announce it.

    ADVICE FOR ONLINE DATING?

I set up my own dating profile,

and the response was so vast

that it was impossible to edit

    them down. I think dinner

    parties and introductions by

    friends are better for someone

    like me. But Match.com

    was fun to try.

    DO YOU THINK ITS

    ACCEPTABLE TO PULL
