His Childhood

Harmon Killebrew was a professional baseball player. He lived in Idaho. He played baseball with his brother a lot because baseball was probably his favorite thing to do. When he played baseball he would play at Walter Johnson Memorial Field (named after a famous baseball player). Baseball is the sport that he’s famous for, but he also was a great football player. In fact, he was an all-American quarterback at Payette High School (which means the best American quarterback in high school).

What were his career highlights?

One of his career highlights was in 1969 when he got the most valuable player award out of all the major league players that were eligible. One of the other amazing things that he did was to get 2,086 hits which is a huge amount of hits. But that’s not all he did. He also hit homeruns. In fact, he hit 573 of them which led him to 13 all star elections, when most players weren’t getting any all star elections. In the decade of the1960’s he led the major leagues in home runs (393).

What happened after his career?

After his career ended he became a major league baseball hitting instructor. After he finished doing that he became a major league baseball announcer. To go along with that he also tried to get into the Hall of Fame twice, but didn’t because he didn’t get enough votes. On his third try he finally made it in.
