Suggested start point: Portesham village lWalk Distance: 10.2km / 6.3 milesFrom the village up to Rocket Quarry, pasthistoric agricultural buildings beforeheading West and a short detour to visitthe Hell Stone, the remains of a Neolithiclong barrow. Continue West along theRidgeway with beautiful far reaching viewsover the coast, past Hampton stone circleand down via a small section of holloway,past Ironstone exposure and through thevillage of Abbotsbury. Note the differencein building stone compared to Portesham.The final stretch back to Porteshamfollows the route of the old railway line,originally built in anticipation of extractingiron ore from the Abbotsbury Ironstone.Facilities: Pubs, cafes and public toilets inAbbotsbury. Pub and café in Portesham.Public Transport:The X53 betweenBridport and Weymouth stops inAbbotsbury and Portesham and runshourly in summer (less frequently October- April).
