APPLICATIONS:Repairing of automotive, truckand bus parts. Also for tanks, pipes, ladders, shelves, refrigeration equipment, foundrypatterns and many otheraluminium structures.Repair ofmachining errors and build-upof missing sections of castings, extrusions, plates etc. Can alsobe used as a gas brazing alloy.PROCEDURES:Clean weld area. Parts 1/8 inchor heavier should be bevelled70° - 90°. No preheat isnecessary on thin gauges butfaster, flatter, smoother weldsare produced on heaviersections if they are preheatedto approx. 400°F (205°C). Holdelectrode vertically to workpiece, maintain a short arc andfast travel speed. Use eitherstringer beads or weavingtechnique. Remove slagbetween passes. Restart arcon existing weld deposits. Allowpart to cool slowly. Chip of allslag before quenching. Forcomplete slag removal use awire brush with a 10% sulphuricacid and hot water solution.Rinse with clean water.

DESCRIPTIONBasic graphite coatedstick electrode with purenickel core wire formachinable cold weldson cast iron. For jointwelds and build - upwelds on cast iron andfor joining cast iron tosteel in all positions onoily and greasy surfaces.A variety of specificwelding properties can beused depending on thetype of welding currentand electrode polatiry. With DC (negative) thewelding speed is slow. With DC (positive) higherbeads are formed. WithAC the welding speed isincreased and thermalinput reduced. Thegolden rule for coldwelding cast iron is: weldshort beads (30-50mm)and immediately peenbeads thoroughly in orderto rel ieve stresses.

Most cast ironscan be welded as theelectrode coating permitsthe use of low weldingcurrents and depositsare low in carbon. Sometypical applications arefor gray cast irons to mildsteel and general difficultto reach crack repair. Ifpreheat is not possibleand machinable depositsare required then nickelbase electrodes Fedcast1, 3, and 31 can be usedfor the top layers.
