A s the end of the year approaches, we tend to reflect on the past year and set goals for 2014.
All are good goals, but for me, the question is— How can we improve club operations?
Although there is plenty still to do I hope you can all agree with me in that our clubhouse operations
have improved over the course of the last 6 months and are going to continue to improve with the
help of our new Dining and Event Manager, Mardi Peace. Mardi is doing an excellent job! Her hard-
work ethic and enthusiasm is already making an impact. Our Members will all benefit from improved
customer service, new creative menus and plenty of great parties to attend. Chef Calvin and Mardi
are working diligently to make your experience at the club more enjoyable.
Allen Coursey and his staff continue to do a tremendous job in keeping our golf course in great
playing condition. Rest assured, our most important amenity is in good hands. We will continue to
make the right decisions in order to keep the course in great condition for your enjoyment and for the
benefit of our club.
2014 is going to be a great year! We have a lot of work to do and our staff is committed to making
this place better for you and future members. During the off-season, we will work on painting and
renovating some of our buildings and amenities. The men’s steam room is currently undergoing
major repairs and will be up and running soon. The golf operation will experience new and improved
instruction programs, a greater selection of merchandise and tournaments that accommodate golfers
of all levels. In addition, you will find a staff that is better trained and working to improve their skills.
Our managers will be encouraged to attend education seminars in their field so they continue to grow
and benefit from the latest methods and technology. We are here for you and will do everything we
can to improve your experience at Grand Harbor.
Your feedback and suggestions are always welcome. After all, we can’t fix what we don’t know is
broken.
Thank you and have a great holiday season!
Tommy Thomas, General Manager and Head Golf Professional

From the Superintendent
T he effects of “traffic” can play a role in turf grass injury during cold temperatures. The turf grass injury is caused by carts and/or foot traffic that occur on frozen or slush covered turf grass. The most common type of injury
due to traffic is from frost damage where traffic causes mechanical injury, which ruptures the plant cell in the early morning before the frost melts. Frozen turf grass crowns are easily damaged from traffic. Traffic should be avoided from frozen turf grass until soil and turf grass plants have completely thawed out. Before driving or walking on any part of the golf course during winter months, please check with the golf shop before doing so. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Allen Coursey, Golf Course Superintendent
