A shipment of over 1700tons of Iranian Sayir dates passed through the Port of Houstonrecently purchased by Tenneco West, an agricultural division of the Tenneco Corporation. The dates were shipped by KhuzestanDates Sales Export, S.A. of Khorramshahr, Iran. The cargo was shipped aboard two Maersk Line vessels, the SALLY, and the TOBIAS. The SALLY’S load consisted of 1,243 tons while the TOBIAS carried 1,573 tons. In the photo aboveon board the TOBIAS are from the left Bill Cook,Port of Houston;Mogens Lauridsen, Maersk Lines; Captain A. Christensen, Master of the vessel; the Chief mate; Bob Clark, Tenneco West; and C.A. Rousser, Port of Houston. The dates were shipped on pallets (center photo) and were transferred to containers (bottom photo) at the Port of Houston for shipment to Tenneco’s Indio plant in California via the Southern Pacific Railroad. Santa Fe OrdersNew Equipment

Details of equipment being pur-chased at a cost of $116 million, as partof Santa Fe Railway’s 1978 capital ex-penditure program, were announcedby Larry Cena, president.

Santa Fe Industries, the parent com-

pany, had previously announced a$386 million capital expenditureprogram for 1978, which included $249million for the diversified company’stransportation group. Sixty-twolocomotive units are being delivered in1978 as part of an order for 124 placedin 1977. Included will be 52 units of2,250 and 3,000 HP from GeneralElectric, and ten 3,500 HP units fromthe Electro-Motive Division of GeneralMotors.

Santa Fe also will build 200 plainbox cars, 300 insulated box cars, and25 hi-cube box cars. The railroad alsowill acquire 100 open-top hoppers, 100covered hoppers and 25 air-slidecovered hoppers. The company willconstruct 507 tri-level and 204 hi-levelracks which will be applied to leasedflat cars for use in automobile serviceas well as five heavy-duty flat cars, 50cabooses and 310 used TOFC flat cars.

A&M Sea GrantDirector Named

Feenan D. Jennings, formeroceanographic research administratorfor the U.S. Navy and the NationalScience Foundation, will become direc-tor of Texas A&M University’s SeaGrant College Program on March 1,announced Dr. Jarvis E. Miller,university president.

With Jennings’ appointment to theSea Grant post, Dr. Worth D. Nowlin,Jr., director of the program since

August, will become deputy Sea Grantdirector and continue his teaching,research and administrative respon-sibilities as head of Texas A&M’sOceanography Department.

As director of the Sea Grant CollegeProgram, Jennings will administer $2.5million in marine-related research,education and public service programs.Funding is from private sources, stateand local governments, and theNational Oceanic and AtmosphericAdministration, U.S. Department ofCommerce.
