This past year has been one of great growth and lasting friendships at Oak Wood Place Senior Living. We have laughed together, traveled together, and made some great friends in the process! We would like to thank our wonderful families for helping make 2014 a magical year for our residents.

I encourage everyone to get involved in the resident life at Oak Wood Place Senior Living. If you have anything you would like to do in 2015, please let our activity department know as soon as possible. Have a great recipe that you have been craving for weeks? Don’t hesitate to drop in during the Chef’s Corner and share so we can all enjoy! With the recently elected officers of the Resident Council, I can see great things in store for the future.

Chef’s CornerJanuary is our hearty stew and soup month. From the classic vegetable to decadent cream soups that will warm not only the body, but the soul as well.

I am always interested to see what exciting recipes you guys have and would love to have you bring a copy to myself or one of our wonderful kitchen staff.

Health TipRethink water temperature.When bathing or even just washing hands, start using warm water rather than hot water. Hot water removes your natural skin oils more quickly. Warm water is better because it’s less drying.

Soothe chapped skin when you see the first sign. Apply a rich lip balm with a petroleum jelly or mineral oil base. Keep in mind that what not to do is just as important: Don’t lick your lips to soften them—that will backfire and dry them out further.

Cover up outdoors. Wear a scarf around the lower half of your face and don’t forget your gloves to help prevent chapped hands.

New Years Fun Facts

The earliest known New Year celebrations were in Mesopotamia and date back to 2000 B.C.
