Chef’s CornerJanuary is our hearty stew and soup month. From the classic vegetable to decadent cream soups that will warm not only the body, but the soul as well.

I am always interested to see what exciting recipes you guys have and would love to have you bring a copy to myself or one of our wonderful kitchen staff.

Thank you for a wonderful year, and we are looking forward to serving you in 2015. Happy New Year!-Chef Alan

Health TipRethink water temperature. When bathing or even just washing hands, start using warm water rather than hot water. Hot water removes your natural skin oils more quickly. Warm water is better because it’s less drying.

Soothe chapped skin when you see the first sign. Apply a rich lip balm with a petroleum jelly or mineral oil base. Keep in mind that what not to do is just as important: Don’t lick your lips to soften them—that will backfire and dry them out further.

Cover up outdoors. Wear a scarf around the lower half of your face and don’t forget your gloves to help prevent chapped hands.

2014 was a great year and the nursing staff would like to wish you health and happiness for 2015. Happy New Year everybody!

Happy New Years Poem

"What can be said in New Year rhymes,That's not been said a thousand times? The new years come, the old years go,We know we dream, we dream we know.We rise up laughing with the light,We lie down weeping with the night. We hug the world until it stings,We curse it then and sigh for wings. We live, we love, we woo, we wed,We wreathe our prides, we sheet our dead.We laugh, we weep, we hope, we fear,And that's the burden of a year."

New Years Fun Facts

The earliest known New Year celebrations were in Mesopotamia and date back to 2000 B.C.

“Auld Lang Syne” was written by Scottish poet Robert Burns in 1788. He may have based it on a folk song.

The first ball dropping celebration atop One Times Square was held on December 31, 1907.

2010: I will follow my new diet religiously to get below 200 pounds.

2011: I will develop a realistic attitude about my weight.

2012: I will work out 3 days a week.

2013: I will try to drive past a gym at least once a week.
