Janssen students will have the opportunity to check out library books during the summer
months from the Janssen Elementary School Library. Any student wishing to participate,
with parent/guardian permission, may get up to 10 books to read over the summer.
Students will be coming to the library during the last week of school to checkout those
books. Additionally, the Janssen library will be open on Tuesday, July 9th and Tuesday,
August 6th, from 12:30-3:30pm for any students wanting to exchange any of the books for
up to 10 different books. The parent/guardian must accompany their child in July and
August to exchange/checkout their books.
In order for students to check out books for the summer, they will need to have the
permission slip on the bottom of this sheet signed and returned to the library no later than
Wednesday, June 5, 2019. We will provide a book bag for the books, please make sure
your child returns the books in this bag on the first day of school.

Dear Janssen School Community,
Our 2018-19 school year will be coming to a close. I am filled with mixed
emotions: I am happy for our students to enjoy their summer and I am a
bit sad that I do not get to see them until our next school year. As I re-
flect on the school year, I shift back to being happy based on how our stu-
dents have grown as problem solvers. This growth was made possible be-
cause of strong, positive relationships between staff, students, and fami-
lies and our students’ perseverance to be successful. A huge thank you to
each person who positively impacts each of our students each and day.
Since I am giving out “thank yous”, I want to continue by thanking the
groups of people below…
...our families who believe in us to keep our children safe;
...our staff who through positive relationships create the conditions for our
students to be valued;
...our PTO who continue to work hard to raise money for our playground
equipment;
...our lunch personnel who cook yummy and healthy lunches for our stu-
dents;
...our crossing guards who keep our students safe before and after school;
...our bus drivers who transport our students safely to and from school;
...our volunteers who help with what our staff needs; and
…our students (of course) who each day come to school inspiring us to be
our best to give them what they need when they need it.
My recommendation during the summer months is for our students to con-
tinue to read for the enjoyment. Whether they are reading or you are
reading to them, a good book slows down our day, evokes emotions, and
fosters making connections.
Have a safe and enjoyable summer.
Sincerely,
Hercules Nikolaou, Ph.D.
