Hoof Beats by the Club President

WOW, time for the Holidays again. It seems impossible, but here we are. Hopefully you can find time to attend our final meeting of the year, November 7th, same time and place, 7pm YL Community Center in the Club Room. Pizza, drinks and snacks will be served. We have new information to share and a Special Treat, the reading of the Wonky Donkey, you won’t want to miss it. A new issue has come forth with the new Paxton Arena lease with the County. Apparently in their last review of the lease, the “Big Wigs” actually came out to Paxton and questioned who picks up all the horse manure and if not picked up where does it go? SOOOOOOOO, the new rule, signs, trash cans are on order but we are being asked to do our part and clean up around our trailers and any other times that you can. I have let the City know that those just riding through may have a hard time because we don’t carry rakes on our horses. However, with that in mind, anytime you can help clean up after your own horses it would be appreciated by Johnny and our City. Whatever is not cleaned up by us will fall to Johnny and since we all love Johnny and know that he has several other parks besides Paxton to maintain, please help where you can. We have a trail ride and a lakebed clean up scheduled for this weekend, November 3rd, 9am Trail Ride & the 4th the 9am Cleanup. Details were sent out via email and I wasn’t sure if this Newsletter would get out before the week end. It appears it will, so if you can join us for either event please RSVP to me. I will report soon on the success of both and hopefully we will schedule another trail ride soon, perhaps a Christmas ride. If you are interested, let me know. Also, as I mentioned in a recent email we will continue our traditional Christmas/Holiday Party in January. I’ll update everyone when we have the date and location. Please plan to attend, as it’s one of our favorite events each year with GREAT FOOD. Lastly, to avoid the Holiday Craziness feel free to send in your YLCR dues early as they will be due in January. We are very grateful for our Old Faithful Members, as well as those that continue to support YLCR yet no longer have horses and to those that never have had horses, but support the Equestrian Heritage of YL, and to our newer members too. 2019 is our 49th year and we are Proud to say that we are one of the oldest Clubs in Yorba Linda and we THANK each and every one of you for making that possible.

Meet new YLCR members Ava Rose and Sir Winston Jack Journey, Julie and Debi’s new additions.

After 4 years of training hard and many hard falls, which YLCR newsletter layout person Calvin has coined the term “involuntary dismounts” has won his first trophy buckle and cash prize in the Cowboy Mounted Shooting sports. Calvin and his horse Dusty competed in Waterford, California in September 2018. Calvin hopes to compete in the World Championship, Amarillo, TX. within the next 3 to 4 years.

Mc Donald’s Hitchin’ Post Dedication

(Above) Hope tied to the retired McDonald's Hitching Post. The Yorba Linda Historical Society dedicated the Hitching Post on Oct 14, 2018. The YLCR was well represented by (top right pictured) Roni, Dee Dee, Judy Magargee, Mary & Earl Carbone, Heidi, Lana, Peggy & Hope. Other YLCR members in attendance but they missed the picture, Lee Day, Pete Friedrich, Jeff & Karen Freeman. Thanks to all that came out for a fun day and if you haven't made your way out to the Historical House it's worth the trip, we were ALL impressed with the amazing history, packed into every room.
