Venetian Gardens Homes Association Meeting Thursday, November 18, 2010
Monthly meeting for the Venetian Gardens Homes Association was held at 7:00 PM. Officials in attendance were Bill Gay, Nick Jackalone, Al Horine and Evadene Judge. The board welcomes new members, Nick Jackalone, Vice President, and Al Horine who will fill the Secretary position. The budget was reviewed before Homes Association members in attendance and was then approved by a vote with a quorum in attendance. A guest speaker, Martha Edmunds, Safety Committee person from Southeast Elementary PTA, addressed the board and membership requesting a letter of support to the Public Improvement Advisory Committee (PIAC) to expand N. Northwood, KCMO. Expansion of N. Northwood from 52nd Street to Prairie View Road would include drainage (sewer), curbs and sidewalks. A letter of support will be forthcoming from President Bill Gay. The membership had questions regarding lake projects, such as the duck weed floating on the lake. Solutions were discussed and more time will be needed to address these problems by the members of the board. Also, the board is working on the feasibility of a silt pond upstream from the existing silt pond. Future projects that need to be handled are paint of the walk bridge and edging around the peninsula with rock, grass or plants. After addressing the many questions, the meeting was adjourned at 7:30 PM.

From the Kitchen of……
Gage Bigler
Am I glad that Thanksgiving is over. I had 3 dinners to attend in a row and I am stuffed. Whew!! But I did manage to get a great recipe from a guy. According to Gage, this has been handed down through to generations. And I can see why. It’s scrumptious. If you like pumpkin bread and cream cheese, you’ll love this.
The real surprising thing is that I had no idea that it was made with Splenda. I really could not tell the difference. This is good news for people who are watching their weight or for diabetics. The recipe below calls for the real stuff (sugar) but don’t hesitate to substitute with Splenda.
I’m going surprise my sis and make this for Christmas.
Merry Christmas to all!!!
If you have a recipe or some hints that you would like to share with us, please contact Marsha at [email protected] or Mary at [email protected]

Garden Update
Well, our second year of the garden turned out great. We got 2
harvests of green beans this year, so we’re getting that down pretty good. The tomatoes did ok but the weather was a factor again for everyone. We harvested some zucchini but the heat got to the plants pretty fast. It was a challenge to keep up with the watering. But a warm “thanks” to all the kids and parents that helped. This leads me to the garden fundraiser dinner. It will be all about getting a watering system installed in the garden. Several of you have expressed ideas on how to go about this and we welcome any help or insight you may
have. Now, about the fundraiser dinner. The theme this year will be “Soup & Sandwiches” with a twist. It will be the girls turn to make your favorite soup and the boys will be the judges. So I will need 3 volunteers to judge. Please contact myself, Marsha Duncan at 816.419.5051 or Angela Gay at 816.584.9548 if you would like enter your soup or to be a judge. We will give you more details on the dinner in the next Laker, but the plan is
to hold this event sometime in February. Merry Christmas everyone!!!!!
