Happy Bir thdayto You
words and music by Mildred J. Hill and Patty S. Hill
arranged for harp by Sylvia Woods
Dotted Rhythm - I have written the notes for the
lyric word “Hap-py” as two eighth notes.
However, it is often sung in a dotted
rhythm, as shown here. You may play it
either way, but be consistent every time
“Hap-py” comes in throughout the piece.
Introduction - You may omit the introduction
and start where the lyrics begin.
“And many more” Ending - The final “andmany more” phrase is also optional.
In the intermediate versions you may play the final
“more” chord as written, or you may tremolo the
chord. To tremolo, play the final chord rapidly over
and over again, breaking the chords as fast as
you can from bottom to top.
Duet - The easy version
may be played with the
early intermediate version
as a duet.
Key of G ArrangementsYou need to have sharping levers on the F strings
to play these arrangements.
Page 2 – Easy version – key of G
Range: 18 strings from C up to F, with no lever
changes in the music. If this version is too difficult,
beginners can just play the right hand melody.
Page 3 – Early intermediate version – key of G
Range: 21 strings from G up to F, with no lever
changes in the music.
Page 4 – Intermediate solo version – key of G
This version only works if people are not singing
along, which is why I list it as a “solo” version.
Range: 32 strings from D up to G, with an F lever
change for the final note.
Key of C ArrangementsYou need one B-flat for the final note of these
arrangements. If your lever harp isn’t tuned to
flats, you have three options.
#1. Leave out the “and many more” phrase.
#2. If people are singing along, you can leave
the B-flat out of the chord, because the singers
will be singing that note.
#3. If you have a sharping lever on your A string,
you can play an A-sharp instead of the B-flat. Omit
the left hand notes on “and many more” so your
left hand is free to flip the "A" lever immediately
before the last note.
Page 6 – Easy version – key of C
Range: 18 strings from F up to B-flat, with no lever
changes in the music. If this version is too difficult,
beginners can just play the right hand melody.
Page 7 – Early intermediate version – key of C
Range: 21 strings, from C up to B-flat. There are
no sharping lever changes within the music.
Page 8 – Intermediate solo version – key of C
This version only works if people are not singing
along, which is why I list it as a “solo” version.
Range: 33 strings from C up to G, with a B-flat
lever change for the final note. If your harp has 3
full octaves above middle C, you may play the C
arpeggios in measures 9 and 17 up an octave if
you wish.

Lever harp players: Set your sharping levers for the key signature. There is one F-natural lever or pedal change for the final note.
Because of the extra measures for the arpeggios, this arrangement will not work well if people are singing along.
