In het najaar van 2013 viert de Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen haar 350ste verjaardag. Driehonderd jaar na haar oprichtingzag binnen haar muren de prestigieuze Modeafdeling het levenslicht.Beide verjaardagen, 350 jaar Academie en 50 jaar Modeafdeling, worden vanaf 8 september 2013 uitvoerig gevierd.

De Academie verovert de stad met expo’s in het MAS en het MoMu, nieuwe kunstwerken op straten en pleinen, een stadswandeling en tentoonstellingen en evenementen op de bruisende site van de Academie. Deze brochure geeft een gedetailleerd overzicht van al deze tentoonstellingen, happenings en projecten. Je bent bij deze uitgenodigd om mee te vieren!

Is kunst een ambacht of een wetenschap? Moet kunst mooi zijn? Word je als kunstenaar geboren, of kun je kunst leren? Het is slechts een greep uit de vragen die modeontwerper Walter Van Beirendonck en museumdirecteurdr. Paul Huvenne samen beantwoorden in een opvallende tentoonstellingin het MAS | Museum aan de Stroom.

Veteranen als Jacob Jordaens, David II Teniers, Vincent Van Gogh enLaurens Alma Tadema treden er in dialoog met recentere oud-studenten als Panamarenko, Fred Bervoets en Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven. Een creatieve reconstructie van de 17de-eeuwse pronkzaal van de Academie neemt de bezoeker mee naar het prille begin. Verderop tekenen de huidige Academie-studenten live naar levend model. En daar tussenin toont een ‘Golden Wall’ het beste van het beste uit 350 jaar Antwerpse kunst. Hoogtepunten uit de collectie van het Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen(KMSKA) worden aangevuld met topstukken van (inter)nationale bruikleen-gevers en eigen werk uit het bezit van tal van gereputeerde kunstenaars. Goed voor een eigenzinnige tocht doorheen vier eeuwen van levende geschiedenis.

De Modeafdeling is ongetwijfeld een van de meest prestigieuze modeoplei-dingen ter wereld. Haar 50ste verjaardag is het uitgelezen moment voor het MoMu – ModeMuseum Provincie Antwerpen om een tentoonstelling te wijden aan haar geschiedenis en, daaraan gekoppeld, het succesverhaal van de Antwerpse mode.

In de expositie worden verschillende aspecten van de Antwerpse Mode-afdeling doorheen haar eerste 50 jaar belicht: het specifieke curriculum van de afdeling en haar onderwijs- en evaluatiemethode, de eindejaarshows, het belang van modegrafiek, de verschillende generaties studenten en hun carrières, de vriendschap en de opkomst van de ‘Zes van Antwerpen’ (Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Van Saene, Walter Van Beirendonck, Marina Yee, Dirk Bikkembergs) en Martin Margiela, en het afstudeerwerk van de meest markante alumni. Aan de hand van verschillende thema’s schetst deze tentoonstelling een beeld van de opleiding als artistieke cocon. De studenten worden hierbij aangespoord om tot het uiterste te gaan in hun creatieve kunnen en een artistieke signatuur te ontwikkelen die als basis kan dienen voor hun hele verdere carrière. De tentoonstelling illustreert hoe divers en wijdverspreid de carrières van de alumni zijn en welke stempel deze opleiding heeft gedrukt op de internationale modewereld.

Voor dit openluchtproject worden iconische stukken gekozen uit het oeuvre van gerenommeerde Antwerpse ontwerpers. Fotograaf Ronald Stoops,make-up artieste Inge Grognard en modeontwerper Dirk Van Saene inter-preteren deze stukken in een nieuwe fotoshoot. Op verschillende locaties in de stad duiken de beelden in groot formaat op. Via een wandelparcours ontdek je het verhaal achter de stukken, de ontwerper en de locaties. Acht kunstenaars die na het jaar 2000 aan de Academie zijn afgestudeerd, werden door HELD (Wilfried Huet, Dirk Engelen, Stella Lohaus, Isabel Devriendt) uitgenodigd om een nieuw werk in de publieke ruimte te realise-ren. De tentoonstelling heeft aandacht voor de maatschappelijke context en het sociale weefsel van de stad. Het parcours brengt de bezoeker langs betekenisvolle maar vaak wat minder bekende plekken. Het traject is 2 km lang en kan gemakkelijk te voet worden afgelegd.

Deelnemende kunstenaars: Kasper Bosmans, Wannes Goetschalckx, Kati Heck, Pol Matthé, Philip Metten, Joris Van de Moortel, Leon Vranken en Julia Wlodkowski.

Vanaf 8 september wordt de historische site van de Academie nog bruisender dan anders, met tentoonstellingen en feestelijke publieksevenementen. De diversiteit van de opleiding beeldende kunsten, van juweelontwerp tot theaterkostuum en mode, van toegepast grafisch ontwerp tot vrije kunsten komt in al zijn facetten tot uiting. Iedereen is van harte welkom om een tentoonstelling te bezoeken in de Lange Zaal en de Wintertuin of om iets te drinken en te lezen in meeting point, tuinbar en bookshop BAR’AC. De Academie organiseert een tweedaags symposium rond verleden, heden en toekomst van het hoger kunstonderwijs: ‘To Teach or not to Teach. Question-ing the Art School’. Tijdens dit symposium reflecteren internationale experts (zowel kunstenaars als wetenschappers) over thema’s als de geschiedenis van de Academie, de academisering van het kunstonderwijs, de loopbaan van kunstenaars en de positie van de kunstenaar als autodidact.

In de context van de 350ste verjaardag van de Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen nodigen kunstenaar Nico Dockx en kunsthisto-ricus Johan Pas kunstenaars en kunstliefhebbers, docenten en studenten, denkers en doeners uit om na te denken over de rol van de Academie én van het museum in een veranderende, ‘post-institutionele’ kunstwereld.

Veel studenten van de Academie werden later gerenommeerde kunstenaars die talrijke sporen achterlieten in de stad Antwerpen. Van kunstwerken in kerken, in het Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen en het Middelheim Museum tot straatnamen als de De Keyserlei: allemaal getuigen ze van dit roemrijke verleden.

Ter ere van deze verjaardag brengen we enerzijds deze sporen samen in een aantrekkelijk boekje met verhalen, weetjes en illustraties. Anderzijds nemen gidsen je mee op ontdekkingsreis in de Antwerpse binnenstad. Publicatie en rondleiding belichten de relatie tussen Academie en stad aan de hand van o.a. architectuur, beeldhouw-, schilder- en textielkunst in de Antwerpse erfgoed-collecties en de openbare ruimte.

L’Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts d’Anvers fête son 350e anniversaire en 2013. La prestigieuse section de Mode y vit le jour trois cents ans après la fondation de l’Académie. Deux anniversaires, 350 ans d’Académie et 50 ans de section Mode, seront donc fêtés comme il se doit à partir de 8 septembre 2013.

L’art est-il un artisanat ou une science ? L’art doit-il être beau ?Est-on né artiste ou le devient-on ? Voilà quelques-unes des questions auxquelles répondent ensemble le styliste Walter Van Beirendonck et le directeur de musée dr. Paul Huvenne à travers une étonnante expositionau MAS | Museum aan de Stroom.

Des maîtres classiques comme Jacob Jordaens, David II Teniers, VincentVan Gogh et Laurens Alma Tadema y entrent en dialogue avec des anciens élèves comme Panamarenko, Fred Bervoets et Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven. Une reconstruction créative de la salle d’apparat de l’Académie au 17e siècle invite le visiteur à voyage dans le temps. Plus loin, des étudiants de l’Académie dessinent d’après des modèles vivants. Et entre les deux, un Golden Wall évoque 350 ans d’art à Anvers sous ses formes les plus belles. Des pièces maîtresses de la collection du Musée Royal des Beaux-Arts d’Anvers (KMSKA) sont complétées par des œuvres majeures de prêteurs belges et étrangers et dans des collections privées de renom. Une incursion singulière et vivante dans quatre siècles d’histoire de l’art.

Le Département de Mode est une des plus prestigieuses formations au monde. Ce cinquantenaire est pour le MoMu – Musée de la Mode de laProvince d’Anvers l’occasion de consacrer une exposition à l’histoire du Département de Mode de l’Académie et au succès de la mode anversoise.

L’exposition mettra en lumière divers aspects de l’enseignement modeà Anvers pendant ses 50 premières années : la ‘patte’ de la division avec sa méthode d’enseignement et d’évaluation, ses défilés de fin d’année, l’importance du graphisme de mode, les diverses générations d’étudiantset Ieurs carrières, l’amitié et la montée en puissance des « Six d’Anvers »(Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Van Saene, Walter VanBeirendonck, Marina Yee, Dirk Bikkembergs) et de Martin Margiela,la création de fin d’études des anciens élèves les plus renommés.

Sur base de divers thèmes, cette exposition dresse un tableau de cette sorte de cocon artistique qu’est la formation dispensée à l’Académie. Les étudiants y sont incités à aller au bout de leurs capacités créatrices et à développer une signature artistique qui sera le fondement de leur carrière. S’appuyant sur des travaux de fin d’études et des créations récentes d’anciens élèves, sur des photos, des vidéos et du matériel graphique, l’exposition illustre la diversité et l’étendue des carrières de ses anciens et l’impact qu’a eu cette formation sur le monde international de la mode.

Pour ce projet en plein air, des pièces iconiques des créateurs de renom d’Anvers sont sélectionées. Le photographe Ronald Stoops, la maquilleuse artistique Inge Grognard et le styliste Dirk Van Saene interprètent ces pièces dans une nouvelle séance photo. Les images en grand format sont exposées en divers endroits de la ville. Un itinéraire de promenade vous permet de découvrir l’histoire derrière ces pièces, le styliste et les lieux.

Le parcours de près de 2 km invite le visiteur à découvrir des endroits importants mais moins connus de la ville.

Le site historique de l’Académie s’enfièvre encore davantage à partir du8 septembre, avec des expositions et des manifestations festives publiques. Quantité d’étudiants de l’Académie sont devenus des artistes renommés qui ont laissé des traces en tous genres dans la ville d’Anvers. Œuvres d’art dans les églises, au Musée Royal des Beaux-Arts et au Musée Middelheim, noms de rues comme la Keyserlei: tous témoignent de cet illustre passé artistique. À l’occasion du 350ème anniversaire de l’Académie, nous rassemblons toutes ces traces dans un ouvrage de qualité combinant histoires, informations et illustrations. Une nouvelle promenade guidée vous invite à un voyage dedécouverte dans le centre-ville d’Anvers. La publication et la visite guidée mettent en exergue la relation entre l’Académie et la ville à travers l’architec-ture, la sculpture, la peinture et le textile tel que ces disciplines artistiques sont représentées dans les collections et l’espace public à Anvers.

In 2013 the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp will celebrate its 350th anni-versary. The prestigious Fashion Department opened its doors three hundred years after the Academy was founded. Both of these anniversaries, 350 years of existence of the Academy and 50 years of the Fashion Department, will be celebrated from the 8th of September 2013.

The Academy is invading the city with exhibitions in MAS and MoMu, new works of art on the streets and in the squares, a city walk and exhibitions and events onsite at the Academy itself. These are just a few of the questions which fashion designer Walter Van Beirendonck and museumdirector dr. Paul Huvenne attempt to answer in a striking exhibition atMAS | Museum aan de Stroom.

The work of veterans such as Jacob Jordaens, David II Teniers, Vincent Van Gogh and Laurens Alma Tadema will be juxtaposed in a dialogue with the work of more recent graduates such as Panamarenko, Fred Bervoets and Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven. A creative reconstruction of the Academy’s17th-century state room will take visitors back in time to the early years.Elsewhere today’s Academy students can be found drawing live, from a live model. And in between a Golden Wall will highlight the best of 350 years of Antwerp art. Highlights from the from the collection of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA) are combined with (inter)national masterpieces which have been loaned for this exhibition, and with loans of own works byrenowned artists. The Fashion Department is one of the most prestigious fashion design pro-grammes worldwide. This fiftieth anniversary is the perfect opportunity for MoMu – Fashion Museum Province of Antwerp to dedicate an exhibition to the Fashion Department’s history and the success story of Antwerp fashion.

The exhibition will highlight various aspects of Antwerp fashion education during the first fifty years of its existence: the department’s specific curricu-lum and its education and evaluation methods, the importance of graphicdesign in fashion, the various generations of students and their careers,the friendship and emergence of the ‘Antwerp Six’ (Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Van Saene, Walter Van Beirendonck, Marina Yee, Dirk Bikkembergs) and Martin Margiela, and the graduation projects of some ofthe most noteworthy alumni.

This exhibition paints a picture of the programme as an artistic cocoon. Students are encouraged to achieve their utmost potential and expandtheir skills as well as developing an artistic signature on which they canbuild their future career. The exhibition illustrates how diverse the careers ofthe Academy’s alumni are and how this programme has left a mark on the international fashion world.

For this outdoor project several iconic pieces are chosen from the works ofrenowned Antwerp designers. Photographer Ronald Stoops, make-up artist Inge Grognard and fashion designer Dirk Van Saene have interpreted these objects in a new photo shoot. HELD (Wilfried Huet, Dirk Engelen, Stella Lohaus, Isabel Devriendt) invited eight artists who graduated from the Antwerp Academy after 2000 to create a new work in public space, while paying attention to the city’s social context and social fabric. The 2-km trail takes visitors on a walk to lesser knownlocations in the city.

Many of the Academy’s students went on to become renowned artists who left several traces in the city including works of art in the churches, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts and Middelheim Museum, or who are commemorated in street names, such as de Keyserlei. They all bear testimony to this glorious past.

Ist Kunst ein Handwerk oder eine Wissenschaft? Muss Kunst schön sein? Wird man als Künstler geboren oder kann man Kunst lernen? Dies sind einige der Fragen, auf die der Modeschöpfer Walter Van Beirendonck und Dr. Paul Huvenne, Direktor des KMSKA, mit einer Ausstellung im MAS | Museum aan de Stroom eine Antwort zu geben versuchen.

Werke alter Meister wie Jacob Jordaens, David Teniers d.J., Vincent Van Gogh und Laurens Alma Tadema werden solchen von späteren Studenten der Akademie wie Panamarenko, Fred Bervoets und Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven gegenübergestellt. Eine Rekonstruktion des Prunksaals der Akademie, wie er sich im 17. Jahrhundert darstellte, ermöglicht den Ausstellungsbesuchern eine Zeitreise zu deren Anfängen. Studenten der Akademie zeichnen in den Sälen nach lebenden Modellen. Dazwischen zeigt ein „Golden Wall“ Höhepunkte aus 350 Jahren Antwerpener Kunstschaffens. Die Ausstellung umfasst außer Werken aus dem Besitz des Königliches Museum für Schöne Künste Antwerpen (KMSKA) auch Kunstwerke aus der kostbaren Sammlung der Akademie. Hinzu kommen Spitzenwerke belgischer und ausländischer Leihgeber und von berühmten Gegenwartskünstlern. Eine eigenwillige Reise durch vier Jahrhunderte lebendiger Geschichte.

Die Akademie bietet mit ihrem Fachbereich Modeentwurf einen der an-spruchsvollsten diesbezüglichen Ausbildungsgänge der Welt an. Das 50. Jubiläum der Modeabteilung ist ein hervorragender Anlass für das MoMu – ModeMuseum der Provinz Antwerpen, der Geschichte der Mode-abteilung und der Erfolgsgeschichte der Antwerpener Mode eine Ausstellung zuwidmen.

Zu den Themen gehören die Entwicklung des Studiengangs innerhalb der vergangenen 50 Jahre, die jährlichen Modeschauen der Studierenden, die Bedeutung der Mode-Grafik, die einzelnen Studentengenerationen und ihr Werdegang, die „Sechs von Antwerpen“ (Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Van Saene, Walter Van Beirendonck, Marina Yee, Dirk Bikkem-bergs) und ihre Freundschaften und Erfolge sowie die Examenskollektionen der berühmtesten Absolventen. Die Ausstellung im MoMu ist dem Mode-studium an der Antwerpener Akademie gewidmet. Silhouetten, Fotos,Videos und grafisches Material illustrieren die Bandbreite der Ausbildung,die eindrucksvolle Karriere vieler Absolventen und den Einfluss, den die Akademie auf die Mode weltweit ausgeübt hat.

Für dieses Outdoor-Projekt werden ikonischen Stücke aus den Werken des berühmten Antwerpener Designer gewählt. Die Models werden von der Make-up-Künstlerin Inge Grognard und dem Designer Dirk Van Saene gestylt und von dem Antwerpener Modefotografen Ronald Stoops foto-grafiert. Die künstler-ischen Billboards können bei einem Rundgang entdeckt werden, bei dem die Besucher auch eine Menge über die Geschichte hinter den Silhouetten undüber ihre Schöpfer erfahren.

Die Akademie brachte im Laufe der Jahrhunderte viele weltberühmteKünstler hervor. In ganz Antwerpen blieben Erinnerungen an die ruhmreiche Vergangenheit erhalten. Dazu gehören die Kunstschätze der historische Kirchen, des Königlichen Museum für Schöne Künste und des Middelheim-museum für Bildhauerkunst, aber auch Straßennamen wie „De Keyserlei“,der an den gleichnamigen Historienmaler und Akademiedirektor erinnert.

Anlässlich des 350. Jubiläums der Kunstakademie erscheint ein Buch zum Thema. Weiter wird eine neue geführte Wanderung durch das Stadtzentrum von Antwerpen auf den Spuren der Akademie angeboten.
