PREPARATIONSand, seal and fl ag your surface before you start your painting.

PAINTING INSTRUCTIONSBase oat as follows:SKY—mix of (1:1) Midnite Blue and Deep Midnight Blue.BLUE FIELD—Midnite Blue. Dry brush the middle of the fi eld Sapphire and then Country Blue.STARS—Bleached SandFLAG—Bleached SandRED STRIPES—True RedFLAG POLE—Grey Sky

SkyDouble load an angel brush Midnite Blue on the heel of the brush and Sapphire always keeping the lighter color on the toe of the brush and the darker colors on the heal of the brush. Then use Sapphire and Country Blue Shade along the top of the piece Payne’s Grey. Then take the shading down along the top of the fl ag pole on the background Payne’s Grey. Shade along the top of the fl ag on the background Payne’s Grey. The opening that is about middle on the left side of the piece is shaded along the bottom of the top section of the fl ag Payne’s Grey. Then shade along the top of the middle section of the fl ag on the background Payne’s Grey. Take the shade up along the fl ag pole on the background Payne’s Grey. The opening at the bottom of the piece is shaded along the bottom of the middle section of the fl ag on the background taking this down along the top of the bottom section of the fl ag Payne’s Grey. Then shade up along the outside edge of the piece Payne’s Grey.

Blue Field on the fl agShade along the left side of the blue fi eld Deep Mid-night Blue. Then take the shading along the bottom of the blue fi eld Deep Midnight Blue. Take this shade up the right side also using the Midnight Blue. Once this is dry go over all of this a brush mix of Deep Mid-night Blue and Payne’s Grey. Then once that dries go over all of this straight Payne’s Grey. Highlight across the top of the blue fi eld skipping over the stars Sap-phire. Then once this is dry go over this Country Blue.

Stars on Blue FieldOnly the two stars on the left are shaded because of the side shade. Shade the bottom of each star Grey Sky. Going over this a brush mix of Grey Sky and Mid-nite Blue. Line the bottom of each star a brush mix of Grey Sky and Midnite Blue. Then line the top of each star White.

The Top Section of the fl agThe two top red stripes in the top section of the fl ag are shaded along the top of each stripe and down the right side Cranberry Wine. Once this is dry go over this a wash of Midnite Blue. Shade the top of the two white stripes and down the right side Grey Sky and then wash Midnite Blue. And then highlight along the bottom and along the left-hand side of the top two red stripes Watermelon Slice. Go over this once dry Fiery Red. Highlight the bottom and the left sides of the two top white stripes White. Shade the bottom two red stripes along the bottom and along the left and right side Cranberry Wine. Then once that is dry go over this Midnite Blue. Shade along the bottom and along the left and right side of the bottom two white stripes Grey Sky. Then when this is dry go over this with a wash of Midnite Blue. Highlight the tops of the two bot-tom white stripes White. The two bottom red stripes are highlighted along the top Watermelon Slice. Go over this once dry Fiery Red. Wash Midnite Blue along the top of the middle section, on the top section of the fl ag.

The Middle Section of the fl agAll the white stripes are shaded along the bottom and the left side Grey Sky. Then once this is dry a wash of Midnite Blue. Then all the red stripes are shaded along

the bottom and along the sides Cranberry Wine. Then once this is dry wash Midnite Blue over this. Highlight the tops and down the right sides of the white stripes White. Then highlight the tops and down the right sides of all the red stripes Watermelon Slice. Then once this is dry highlight the tops and sides’ again Fiery Red. Wash over the left end of the middle section of the fl ag Midnite Blue.

The Bottom Section of the fl agShade down the bottoms of each red stripe Cranberry Wine. Then wash the over this Midnite Blue. Shade down the bottom of each white stripe Grey Sky. Then once this is dry go over this a wash of Midnite Blue. Highlight the white stripes along the tops and along the edge of the piece on each stripe White. Then high-light the tops of each red stripe Watermelon Slice. Then go over this Fiery Red.

Flag PoleShade down the right side of the fl ag pole Graphite. Also, shade along the top of the fl ag pole Graphite. The ball on the top of the fl ag pole is shaded down right sides almost connecting at the top of the ball on the left side Graphite. Then dry brush the top left side of the ball a brush mix of Grey Sky and White. Add-ing more and more White until you are using straight White. And the lighter you go the less area you will cover. Then over coat the fl ag pole and the ball at the top Shimmering Silver.

Fire WorksBLUELine and dot Sapphire. Highlight line and dot a brush mix of Cool White and Sapphire.

REDLine and dot True Red. Highlight line and dot Water-melon Slice.

WHITELine and dot Bleached Sand. Highlight line and dot White.

GREENLine and dot Hauser Medium Green. Highlight line and dot Olive Green.

YELLOWLine and dot Traditional Raw Sienna. Highlight line and dot Marigold.

Words Around the EdgeLine the letter around the edge Grey Sky and then once dry go over this Cool White.

FINISHINGApply a couple of coats of varnish sanding between with some Super Film.
