Meetings were held with specific legislators around funding, staff training, shortage of staff in some areas, and trying to keep Indiana Medicaid population out of Managed Care programs. I am pleased to announce that the Indiana House of Representatives passed a House Resolution (22) “honoring Hoosier long-term care professionals.” The resolution passed unanimously. It was a warm moment for me listening to some 10-12 staff members from local nursing homes provide the legislators with their backgrounds, their successes and the pride they felt working in nursing homes. It was touching for me because I knew whether I went to one of the ECC consulted facilities in Indiana or Illinois, I too would hear the same pride, the same fulfillment from many of our employees. On the Illinois side of politics not much has changed. The State is still operating without a budget. Payments for Medicaid residents is again some 6-8 months behind causing a great strain to the financial operations of a number of Medicaid providers and nursing homes across the State. Rumors continue that when a budget is passed the cuts to Medicaid providers and nursing homes will be anywhere between a 2% to 6% reduction. This despite costs of operations continuing to grow in every cost level: minimum wage increases, food costs, electricity, employee health insurance and the list goes on. Hopes springs eternal… Spring is around the corner. Enjoy the weather change. Paul MacCray is famous at Grasmere Place for both never forgetting a birthday and for designing quizzes. Paul has been employed at Grasmere since 1982 and in that time no holiday party or event has been without his trivia games which include history, holiday, and questions that help people learn more about their co-workers. Paul decided this year in honor of Black History month that he wanted to highlight some of the too little known contributions and sacrifi ces that African Americans had made to our history. He gave staff members multiple choice questions each day to inspire conversations and discussions. Over the course of the month he sparked many interesting conversations among staff and residents. In fact many staff members reported they took the questions home to stump husbands, wives, and children. Paul’s love of learning and teaching others to learn our history truly became contagious.

Thank you Paul f going the extra mile to engage the Grasmere community in learning hist y and sparking many imp tant conversations.

Tri-State celebrated Valentine’s Day with a Grand Valentine’s Ball. e sta had some snacks, along with the residents, and danced the a ernoon away. Tri-State also celebrated Mardi Gras with masks, beads, and plenty of fun! As always, Tri-State Administration and Department Managers would like to thank all of our sta for the continued dedication and hard work.

Lemont would like to give a shout out to Ed Kawa (cook) who o ered his services to help with an Employee Appreciation Celebration. Seeing that we had unusually warm weather in February , he o ered to grill for the sta . Ed has competitive cooking experience and brought his own equipment and talents to the table. e facility Administrative sta brought sides to share with the Lemont team.

What a great day at Lemont.
