Ryan MillerRyan Miller is Hanover College’s head coach for both the men’s

and women’s tennis squads.

Miller, a United States Professional Tennis Association certified

instructor, is a former assistant coach at Indiana University and

was the head teaching professional at the Jasper Tennis Club in

Jasper, Ind.

A 2011 Indiana graduate, Miller served as a manager with

Indiana’s women’s tennis program through four seasons while

earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism. He later worked as a

volunteer assistant coach with the Hoosiers and also taught at

the IU Tennis Center.

During his stint at the IU Tennis Center, he organized a 10-and-

under team program which included more than 200 players and

35 coaches, in addition to private and group instruction.

While at the Jasper Tennis Club, he provided instruction to a base of nearly 300 junior players and 40 adults.

A native of Washington, Ind., Miller played for four years on Washington High School’s varsity team and was a

three-time all-conference, all-district and all-state honoree for the Hatchets.

head coach for Hanover’s women’s basketball team.

In the off season Molly finds time to assist Coach Miller

throughout the women’s tennis season. Molly’s oldest

daughter Kelsey (21) is a member of the women’s

tennis team, and enjoys having her mom help cheer

her and her teammates on to victory.

Sue DeWine PRESIDENT

Dr. Sue DeWine became the 15th president of Hanover College, July 1, 2007.

As the former provost of Marietta College (Ohio), DeWine has extensive experience as an administrator, fund-raiser and communication consultant.

DeWine was a professor at Ohio University from 1985-2000 in organizational communication and research and consulting. She served as director of the School of Interpersonal Communication from 1988-2000. She received an award for scholarship, teaching and leadership and an award for dedication to excellence and acceptance of diversity, vision and forthrightness from the National Communication Association.

She has served as a consultant to Fortune 500 companies, government, and educational institutions. A well-published author, she has written more than 60 communication-oriented books and articles.

DeWine earned a doctorate in communication and counseling psychology from Indiana University in 1977. She received a master’s in rhetoric and public address from Miami University (Ohio) in 1967 and a bachelor’s degree in English and speech education from Miami in 1966.

Lynn Hall ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

Lynn Hall is in her 16th year as Hanover’s director of athletics. Under her leadership, the Hanover’s athletic program has continued to thrive, with both the men’s and women’s programs winning Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference all-sports awards.

A 1982 Hanover graduate, Hall was the head coach for the Panthers’ volleyball program from 1987 to 1998. She was able to build an outstanding volleyball tradition, win three conference championships and be named league coach of the year three times.

She is a past member of the NCAA Division III National Volleyball Committee.

In addition to her administrative work with athletics, she also serves as a faculty member in the exercise science department.

Special sports accomplishments: Getting to play and help the tennis team win an away match with only four players. It was a great win.

Road trip stories: All of the girls on the team and Coach singing along to some classic songs on the radio, on the way home from one of our matches.

What do you like to do outside of your sport: Outside of tennis, I love drawing and finding delicious new recipes to try from Pintrest.

Alexis Taylor Alexis Taylor is from Frankfort, IN and a graduate of Frankfort Senior High School. Her parents are Rodney and Samantha Taylor. The junior is a Sociology major at Hanover.

Service or philanthropic activities: I have volunteered at my local humane society and helped raise money for paw pals.

Who would you most like to meet: I would like to meet Maroon 5 because I love their music!

What do you like to do outside of your sport: I love to cook different foods, mostly desserts because I have a sweet tooth. I also enjoy working out and running. Outside of those I just like being around family and friends.

Must-hear song before competing: Any upbeat song or whatever I am in the mood for that I feel will increase my energy and mindset.

Who do you pattern your game after: I pattern my game somewhat after Federer or Serena, I like to turn on the ball when I can and really try to open up the court with good angles.

Brooke Glahn Brooke Glahn is from Burlington, KY and a graduate of Conner Senior High School. Her parents are Gary and Melissa Glahn.

What do you like to do outside of your sport: Outside of Tennis, I am a huge shopper. I could go shopping almost every day of my life and be happy. I also like to hang out with friends, and have a good time. I like to visit new places and meet new people.

Who is your role model: My role model would have to me my mom. She is such a strong determined woman you always looks for the good in bad situations. She has gone through so much, but yet stays constantly smiling.

Who would you most like to meet: Out of everyone in the entire world I would love to be able to meet Channing Tatum. He is every girls dream guy. Who wouldn’t want to meet him?

Who is your role model: My role model is one of my former teachers. She taught me to never give up on my dreams and that hard work and focus will make me achieve those dreams. She also taught me to do what makes me happy and that other opinions shouldn’t affect how I live my life.

HEARTLAND CONFERENCE

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference is a union of 10 private small colleges and universities from Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. Formed in 1997, the Heartland Conference is affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association and participates at the Division III level, which offers no athletic scholarships.

The league currently sponsors men’s championship in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor and outdoor track & field and wrestling. Championships are awarded in nine women’s sports, including: basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, indoor and outdoor track & field, and volleyball.

Five member schools were formerly affiliated with the Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference and three schools were members of the Association of Mideast Colleges.

Anderson University, Franklin College, Hanover, Manchester University and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology were each charter members of the ICAC. Bluffton University, Defiance College and Mount St. Joseph University were each members of the AMC.

Transylvania University, a former member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), officially joined the Heartland Conference in 2001. Earlham College, a former member of the North Coast Athletic Conference, joined the HCAC prior to the 2010-11 academic year.

AWARDS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS

The Hanover College women’s tennis squad captured its second consecutive Heart-land Collegiate Athletic Conference championship with a 5-2 victory against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The tournament finale was played at the West Indy Racquet Club in Indianapolis, Ind.

Hanover opened the battle with hard-fought wins in two of the three doubles match-es. The Panthers, 12-2 overall this season, secured the HCAC crown with three singles victories.

Freshman Alana Feeley (Colchester, Vt.) and sophomore Mackenzie Spicer (Indianap-olis, Ind.) earned an 8-4 triumph at No. 2 doubles against Rose-Hulman’s Lauren Ed-wards and Isabella Evans.

Senior Kelsey Jones (Hanover, Ind.) and junior Alexis Taylor (Frankfort, Ind.) held off the Engineers’ Lauren Miller and Sydney Short 8-6 at No. 3.

Hanover wrapped up its third conference title since 2008 by winning three singles matches.

Taylor defeated Kylie McCollum 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 3 slot, while Jones beat Miller 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5.

Feeley, in the No. 6 position, nailed down the championship with a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Short.

Hanover has earned the Heartland Conference’s automatic berth in the NCAA III national tournament. The event will be held May 18-23, with the finals being played in Mason, Ohio.

Junior Allison Poston (Attica, Ind.) and sophomore Mackenzie Spicer (Indianapolis, Ind.) highlight a group of seven members of the Hanover College’s women’s tennis program who have earned post-season honors from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Poston received all-Heartland Conference honors for the first time, while Spicer was selected for the second season in a row. In addition, senior Kelsey Jones (Hanover, Ind.), junior Alexis Taylor (Frankfort, Ind.), sophomore Mallory Noble (Fishers, Ind.) and freshman Alana feeley (Colchester, Vt.) each received honorable mention recognition.

Along with awards for players, first-year head coach Ryan Miller was named the league’s coach of the year for leading the Panthers to HCAC regular-season and tournament champi-onships.

HANOVER COLLEGE FACTS

Hanover is a private, coeducational liberal arts college, affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Founded in 1827, it is the oldest private, four-year college in Indiana.

Location The town of Hanover is located in southeastern Indiana. Louisville is 45 miles away, Cincinnati, 70 miles, and Indianapolis, 95 miles.

Campus Hanover College sits on 650 acres overlooking the Ohio River. There are 35 major buildings, characterized by Georgian architecture.

Enrollment Hanover’s student body includes more than 1,100 young men and women. Almost all students live on campus.

Faculty More than 90 percent of Hanover’s faculty members hold doctorates or other terminal degrees. The student-faculty ratio is 10 to 1 and many faculty members reside on campus grounds, creating an academic community.

Academic calendar Hanover operates on a 4-4-1 calendar. Students take four courses each during Fall and Winter Terms. Spring Term is devoted to a month of concentrated study on campus, internships, or off-campus programs.

Areas of study Hanover offers more than 30 areas of majors, including a design-your-own major, with core strengths in the sciences, education and business. More than one-third of our students go on to graduate and professional studies.

Costs Direct student expenses for a year at Hanover, including tuition, room and board, are $41,450 for the 2013-14 school year. The most current cost information is always available from the Office of Admission.

Financial assistance More than 95 percent of Hanover’s students receive some form of financial assistance. College aid is available in the form of scholarships, grants, loans and campus employment.
