Section Newsletters -- Make the Jump to the
Group Page!
In the pre-internet world, section newsletters were a
primary vehicle for sharing information about your
section’s activities. Now, people are used to having
information at the click of a button. With the asme.org
Group Pages, you can now share information instantly.
Since we now have this tool, we are going to transition
from the Section Newsletter Template to the News and
Updates pages on asme.org, and this will be the last
Section Newsletter Template.
Here are some of the benefits of using your .org Group
Page for keeping your members up to date about your
section:
You don’t have to wait until the next template
comes out to share information.
You can post information as soon as it
becomes available, including photos and links.
If you have one ‘hot off the press’ item, you
can quickly add it to your page, where it will
be immediately available for all to see.
People can comment or provide additional
information – your News and Updates page
becomes a community building as well as
communication vehicle.
It provides members a reason to visit your
group page, so encourages more people to sign
up.
Here’s a preview of how it will work:
We’ll post news items on a “News and
Updates Content” page on the GPS group
page to serve the same purpose as current
newsletter template.
You cut and paste items to your groups’ page.
You can send a message to your entire group
(on .org), and an email through the members
on the list server (don’t forgot to encourage
them to join your Group Page!)
Voila! Your members can start reading about the
great things you’re doing.
Introducing ASME’s Group Engagement and
Transition Team (GETT)
The Group Engagement and Transition Team (GETT)
is a group of volunteers who are here to help with
implementation of the reorganization recently
approved by the Board of Governors. GETT is here
to:
• Ensure that Groups are being heard by other
Sectors and the Sector Management
Committee;
• Work with volunteer representatives and staff
from other Sectors and areas of ASME, and
with GPS in creating rules of engagement for
Groups; and
• Work with GPS in communicating/orienting
Groups on ASME strategic direction/market
focus and how Groups can contribute.
GETT Members and Roles • Karen Ohland – Team Leader
• Marianne Chan, Callie Tourigny – Training
• John Mulvihill – Engagement & Community
Building
• Rick Marboe – Tools
• Jared Oehring – Finance
GETT is involved in planning the upcoming face-to-
face training events in Houston and Istanbul, and is
teaming up with GPS to offer an ongoing series of
webinars to keep you up to date on all the changes,
answer your questions, and help this transition as
smooth as possible for you.
You can contact us through our asme.org profiles, or
tune into one of the webinars and ask your questions.

Introducing ASME’s GPS (Group Pathways and Support)
The ASME Group Pathways & Support (GPS) System has been created as part of the recent reorganization of the Knowledge
and Community and Institutes Sectors to help groups engage more effectively with each other and with more of ASME’s
available programs and services.
Join the GPS group page! http://go.asme.org/GPS Stay up to date, access on line tools such as the Volunteer E-request
tool, and to find much more information about GPS!
Attend an upcoming webinar! GPS is collaborating with the Group Engagement and Transition Team (GETT) to bring you
an ongoing series of Monthly Webinars, with topics such as Merit Based Funding, getting the most out of your asme.org
group page, updates on ongoing programs and transition activities, and channels of engagement. Each webinar will include an
opportunity for questions and will be recorded and made available on the Group Leader Training page on GPS.
Our first webinar was about Merit Based Funding, and the October webinars will provide more information on GPS and the
GPS group page, and the asme.org Group Pages. There will be one webinar devoted to basics, for new Group Page Admins,
and another for more advanced topics. In the advanced webinar, you’ll learn about how to use your Activity Feed and News
and Updates pages in place of the old Section Newsletter template, to quickly and easily share information with your Group’s
members.
Check the Group Leader Training page on GPS for upcoming webinar dates, and to sign up.

Benefit Spotlight: ASME SmartBrief makes you… SMARTER!
"I joined ASME immediately upon graduation from the University of Florida where my scholastic career benefitted greatly
from the (ASME) student chapter meetings. I continued my membership as I became an employee of a large, diversified
manufacturing and research company. I moved to several locations and found ASME chapters to be helpful around the
country. Upon returning to Florida, I became active in ASME programs and events. My interest has continued to the
present - a period of over 65 years. The meetings and publications are a continuing source of information and inspiration."
Andrew H. Hines, Jr.
ASME Member since 1947 (wow!)
Dear Members,
I'm excited to let you know that our newest member benefit, ASME SmartBrief, has quickly become one of our most
