    Business models We will

support both those looking for a

    social or a commercial return

    Standards We will encourage the

community to explore all relevant standards

and choose those that work for them.

We wont seek to impose standards in

general or any standards in particular.

Platforms, tools and devices. We wont

    promote particular approaches over any

other, but rather enable the community

to understand the options and varying

strengths and weaknesses of different choice

    encouraging individuals and organisation to

use what works for them so the community

will determine which ourish and which dont.

HANDI wants to enable the creation of apps totransform wellbeing and the delivery of health

    and care.

    Facilitating learning, networking and

partnerships between those at the frontline

of health and care who understand the

requirements with those with the skills, toolsand resources to deliver innovation solutions

Encouraging the creation of the technical

and cultural environment in which apps can

thrive, interoperate and be orchestrated to

work together for the benet of patients,

carers, service users and the health and

care professionals that provide their care

    We will do this by:

HANDI does not seek to develop apps or createthe platforms on which they will run, rather it

seeks to enable others to do so.

    Why HANDI?

  • 7/31/2019 Handi Bible

    18/42

We believe that apps can help us transform the

way we promote wellbeing and deliver healthand care in ways that traditional IT as so far

    substantially failed to do.

  • 7/31/2019 Handi Bible

    19/42

This is because apps are much quicker and

easier to develop and deploy than traditional

software applications and because the app

paradigm and the development approach thatgoes with it is one in which it is much easier

to engage front line health and care staff,

patients, services user and carers which help

ensure apps solve real problems and work for

the people who they are intended to help.

We believe that by supporting the emerging

app community and promoting their needsand interest we can increase the speed with

which the promise of apps can be realised.

Helping people develop the right apps, driving

down their cost and ensuring they reach

there target users thus improving their return

    on investment (social or commercial),

  • 7/31/2019 Handi Bible

    20/42

We believe that our work will improve

wellbeing, health and care and create economicopportunities for the UK health and care IT

    industry.

by others to promote the needs and interests ofthe HANDI community and/or promote shared

    interests with others.

We want to build local clusters around existing

centres of innovation we already have three

in hand around our initial launch workshops in

Newcastle, London and Warwick University. We

plan to extend our network with clusters in West

Yorkshire (Leeds), Central Scotland and South

Wales. We might also looking at improving our

coverage with clusters in the NW (Manchester,

Liverpool, Preston) , the SW (Bristol or Exeter)

and East Anglia (Cambridge) if the demand is

    their from the HANDI Community.
