Mythics, an Oracle partner of the year, is a homegrown Virginia Beach company. Founded in 2000, it now boasts more than $1 billion in sales and over 100 employees. As an Oracle systems integrator and consulting firm, Mythics represents a variety of Oracle product lines including cloud, software support, hardware, and engineered systems. They also deliver technology solutions for government, commercial companies, higher education institutions, utilities, and healthcare providers.

TQ Systems was founded in Germany in 1994 as a two-man tech company, but has since expanded to 14 total locations with 3 of those locations being outside of Germany. Successful metropolitan regions are able to leverage their unique competitive advantages in a manner that creates economic growth and improves the quality of life of their communities. In Hampton Roads, the recent arrival of transatlantic broadband cables in Virginia Beach has created a new and exciting opportunity that distinguishes it from other metropolitan regions and provides an asset that can translate to job creation for the local economy.

Hampton Roads is the only metropolitan area between Miami and New York where groups of these transatlantic cables are landing. Two cables have already arrived, two will arrive by 2021 and several more are being considered. These cables provide ultra-fast fiber service to existing and prospective businesses to position them for growth within the region.

To leverage this and support the growing IT industry, regional leadership has aggressively pursued an initiative to improve digital infrastructure that will prepare the region for success. This initiative, led by the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission, is known as the Regional Fiber Optic Network Connectivity Project and centers around building a municipally-owned dark fiber open-access network that connects government, business and education centers with the transatlantic cables. Phase 1 of the initiative includes the design of the southside fiber ring, which was recently approved by the five largest southside cities. Future phases of this effort will connect the Peninsula localities, creating a regional “fiber highway” network throughout Hampton Roads that will allow users to access to the ultra-fast global service coming from these transatlantic cables at an affordable cost.
