School Happenings: Annie Jr. By: Emma Blake, Caitlin Barnicoat, and Caleb Thompson

Annie Jr. is this year’s school musical. Set during the Great Depression, it tells the story of a little orphan named Annie and her friends in the orphanage where they stay with a mean, old woman named Miss Hannigan. Right now the people in the musical, Annie, are working hard to prepare for the performance. The tech crew for

Annie is painting sets and helping with lights to make sure the performance is the best it can be. Actors for the musical are practicing their lines and picking out outfits to make the performance more realistic in order to take you back in time to the Great Depression. Lead actors and actresses are Emma Blake as little orphan Annie, Suzy Lausin as Grace, Autumn Warren as Miss Hannigan, Jared Young as Mr.Daddy Warbucks, and Sam Rees as Rooster. Come support your classmates and enjoy Annie Jr. on November 20 at 7:30 or November 21 at 2:30 or 7:30.

Tech Crew Update: At Annie tech meets we have lots of fun! Preparing for Annie is a lot of work but will be worth it . Lately we

have been doing lots of painting and drawing. In the next few weeks we will be finalizing where everything goes and how the play will run. Please Come see the spectacular production November 20th and November 21st. We hope to see you there!

Photograph of Iceberg that Struck the Titanic Up for Auction

Recently, an interesting set of items have been put up for auction a photograph of the iceberg that struck down the Titanic, and an accompanying testimony about the red paint on one side of it. In the testimony, the writers stated that the red paint “has the appearance of having been made by the scraping of a vessel on the iceberg.” The Titanic's hull was painted with red paint.

The photograph had been taken by a chief steward on the Prinz Adalbert, a German ocean liner. This photograph is unique amongst other photos of the same topic because of the testimony

Typhoon Koppu Crashes into the Philippines Better known as "Lando", Koppu has drenched the mainland of the Philippines with more than 40 inches of rain. The Philippines though, are used to being hit by an average of 20 typhoons each year. Typhoons that occur in the Atlantic and East Pacific Oceans are called hurricanes. The difference between the two is dependent upon the longitude of the storm. They both occur in warm areas and have most of the same precipitation. But typhoons occur more often for a majority of 2530 each year and hurricanes frequenting 1015 per year. Koppu is recorded to have been the second strongest storm in Southeast Asia so far this year. As it hit landfall, Koppu was rated at a Category 4. It has since been downgraded to a tropical depression. The impact of this natural force has been devastating to the Filipino community. Houses have been destroyed, and $141 million worth of crops leveled by flooding. There are currently 26 deaths, mostly due to landslides and mudslides, and thousands displaced from their flooded or destroyed homes. Many people have been able to make it out of the "danger" areas safely. As the system moves, there will be increased flooding. The rainfall potential will depend on the cyclone's forward speed, not the intensity of the wind or other factors. The typhoon is currently headed north toward Taiwan and southern Japan. The National Weather Service believes that the typhoon will have lost most of its power by the time it reaches its next mainland target.

that came with it simply signed “M. Linoenewald, and three crewmen.” According to the testimony, at this time, they were unaware of the Titanic disaster. This photograph had hung on the wall of a law firm that represented the the owners of the Titanic, Star White Line.

On October 24, these two items were sold as a single lot by the British auctioneers Henry Aldridge and Son, and was sold for $32,000.

Tech Update Technology is a wide and broad subject that would be impossible to summarize. Farmers are using

agricultural drones ( unmanned aerial vehicles ) that are equipped with cameras to improve the treatment of their crops. Drones give the farmers unique views that cannot be seen by satellites, the tech they were

previously using. They help to solve issues with irrigation treatment, soil variation, and distressed plants at a much lower cost than older methods. Drones were successfully made possible by technological advances in many areas such as GPS modules, digital radios, and small MEMS sensor. These new technological advances help farmers immensely in their area of work.

3D printers are a relatively new technology, but their use in the medical field has helped advance the infant technology. They can be used to grow soft tissue organs that everyone demands for surgery. So far, we have grown, rains, heart's, arteries, and bones. Creating soft tissue organs or cells is called bioprinting, and this could replace previous methods previous former methods of repairing or replacing damaged organs. Additionally, the medical field has been able to print ridgid tools like hearing aids, dental implants, and prosthetic hands. Another use for this machine is food creation giving us a new tactic in ending world hunger in places like Africa. Also builders are using these for creating materials such as glass, steel, plastic, and ceramic. One of the big issues with the tissues is that they can destroy under the weight of the organ weight causing many issues with the idea.

CERN Large Hadron Collider by Andrew Dalke The Large Hadron (HAdron) Collider (LHC), located under the CERN (European Organization for

Nuclear Research) building on the French and Swiss border, is one of the greatest advancements in particle physics. It’s a circular ring about 17 miles long, situated 574 feet under the surface of the earth far out of the sight of prying eyes. The last test performed with the collider was on June 3, 2015, just 5 months ago. Previously, the collider had been shut down for almost two years due to a complete overhaul and update of its technology. With this new equipment, researchers hope to collect more data than they had before. This new research information will help to further our understanding of the universe.

The collider works by accelerating protons to an immense speed, and sending them flying around the many magnets within the collider. As the name suggests, when the particles acquire enough speed, they smash into each other, and create a mini big

bang. A big bang is a phenomenon used to explain the origin of the universe from a scientific point of view. The now exploded and disintegrated protons are captured by a massive stateof theart camera. The

images the cameras capture are an extremely short and are small demonstration of the very beginning of all existence. There are four cameras that each try to capture any pieces of information they can. Now, since the incident, it has been repaired and upgraded, allowing us to further our research into the understanding our universe.

Teacher of the Week: Mrs.Wasylyk & Mrs. Morse This column will feature a new teacher in each edition, rotating between 6th, 7th, 8th, and Specials teachers. This week, we have chosen: Mrs.Wasylyk and Mrs. Morse! They are great teachers, which is why the sixth grade students picked them as our first Teacher(s) of the Week. They are really nice to all of their students, they are extremely patient, and they teach math so that it is really easy to understand. In addition to all of the wonderful things Mrs.Wasylyk does, she is also pregnant. They also both love to help out the students that have trouble understanding the math that they practice in class everyday. Overall, Mrs.Morse and Mrs.Wasylyk are both pretty awesome teachers and for that reason, and many more, the sixth grade students picked Mrs.Morse and Mrs.Wasylyk to be the teacher(s) of the week.

Student Athletes Featuring: Shaye M. and Emily M.

Student athletes kind of have it rough. Whether it’s kicking a soccer ball in hopes of scoring a goal or sprinting an entire mile, they all try their hardest. On top of all the sports students play, they usually have homework. Some people can stay out until 9:00 at meets and never have time for their homework that’s due the next day. It can seem like a constant struggle at times, but it can also be rewarding!

Even though it may be hard, there are some things that you can do to make your struggles easier. Make sure you drink lots of water to stay hydrated. Having a healthy snack before your game can improve your stamina as well. You can certainly do any sports, but remember to plan ahead. Grades come first!

Teacher’s Pets by Rhys Crouch Every couple of weeks, I will be showcasing a

teacher and his/her pet. I’ll tell about who the teacher is, and who their pets are. This week, we will start with Mr.Rusnak, the 7th grade math teacher, who owns a dog named Alpha. Mr. Rusnak adopted Alpha when he was just a puppy

from an Amish man in Canton, Ohio. Mr. Rusnak loves Alpha because he is nice and Alpha loves to play. Alpha is very intelligent as well as friendly to almost everyone, because he is gentle with people.

Alpha is currently three years old, but will be four years old in January. Alpha is a Siberian Husky. Siberian Huskies are usually very intelligent and gentle. They are also very alert. Siberian Husky's usually live twelve to fourteen years, and are friendly and outgoing.

Alpha likes to do many things. He likes sniffing around and he likes to eat. He also likes to play with

History of Madison by Nil Aydinoz, Kyleigh Macioce, and Aubrey Sumrow

The Madison Seminary was many important places over the years. It is located at 6769, Middle Ridge Road. From 18471891 it was a boarding school. It is said that a ghost who was a little girl was left behind and died while the Seminary was a boarding school. In 1891 it became a facility, called the Madison Home, that assisted Civil War veterans, wives, widows, and their family. In the 60’s, the Seminary became a place called the Opportunity Village. the Opportunity Village was a place where inmates went to learn skills for occupations . Opportunity Village closed in 1975, and became a police station and the Madison Township office building. The Seminary was also at one time a hospital and nursing home. Rumors that the

Mr. Rusnak loves to feed Alpha bacon because Alpha is always gobbling it up and jumping around when he sees some bacon. Mr. Rusnak and Alpha make a great team that loves one another very much.

Seminary was haunted started when people were working in the offices. There has been many ghost sightings of a woman and a girl over the years. Thanks for reading! Next week we will be writing about the early history of Madison. If you want more information on the Seminary, check out our article in the Literary Magazine. Happy Halloween!
