The celtic origin It is also known as the name of Witch’s Night. It is a celtic festivity which is celebrated in
the night of 31st of October. The name Halloween was invented in the sixteenth century, because of the scottish expression ‘All Hallows Eve’.
The roman originWhen the romans conquered Spain, they took the celtics customs of Halloween. It was named as Harvest Festival, because the apples was so popular and then ate them in a game
Modern Festivity
In 1840, Halloween arrived to United States and Canada. The Irish foreigns told to the people of this countries how to carve pumpkins ( Jack-o-Lantern ). In 1921, there were a parade in Minnesota. This was the beginning of the Modern Halloween.
This festivity is the most important on the american and canadian calendar. In England is also an important festivity. People wear customes of goblins, ghosts, demons…
HALLOWEEN TRADITIONS IN THE USA
Halloween is the holiday when the most candy is sold; it is second only to Christmas in total sales. North Americans spend over $20 million on Halloween candies yearly.The halloween traditions in the United States, are:
• Jack-o-lantern • Trick or treating • Wearing of costumes • Witches and cats • The parade • Apple bobbing
The Jack-o-Lantern is a lantern made from a hollowed-out pumpkin or turnip in which holes are cut to represent facial features, typically made at Halloween.

Trick-or-treating is a customary practice for children on Halloween in many countries. Children in costumes travel from house to house in order to ask for treats such as candy with the phrase "Trick or treat!".

Halloween costumes are costumes worn on or around Halloween, a festival which falls on October 31.

Apple bobbing, also known as bobbing for apples, is a game often played on Halloween. The game is played by filling a tub or a large basin with water and putting apples in the water.

Halloween traditions were brought to Canada by Irish and Scottish immigrants and we celebrated in Canada on October 31. To mark the single night in the year when, according to old Celtic beliefs, spirits and the dead can cross over into the world of the living.
What do people do?
Some people put a lot of effort into decorating their homes and yards.
Many children go out to play trick-or-treat wearing costumes.
There are special types of food: candies, toffee apples, roasted corn, popcorn and pumpkin pie or bread.
Haunted houses Lots of people go to a special funfair called
Playland in which during the nights from October 10th to November 1st. It becomes a terrifying theme park that features 7 haunted houses, including a brand new house, 13 rides and lots of amusement.
