MESSAGE FROM THE DEANAloha,

Good evening. It is my pleasure to welcome all of you to the Shidler College of Business Hall of Honor Awards.

Each year, as we begin our search for the next group of alumni recipients for the Shidler Hall of Honor Awards, I’m overwhelmed by the vast number of exceptional Shidler graduates in the world. Tonight, we honor four extraordinary Shidler alumni who have achieved the highest level of excellence in their profession and provided outstanding service to their communities and alma mater.

Congratulations to Earl Fry, executive VP & CFO of Informatica Corporation; Alton Miyashiro, managing principal of N&K CPAs, Inc.; Ha Thu Thanh, CEO of Deloitte Vietnam; and Susan Yamada, executive director of the University of Hawai‘i Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship.

I’m also excited to present our keynote speaker Dr. Ed Catmull, president of Walt Disney & Pixar Animation Studios. Tonight, we have a rare opportunity to learn about Dr. Catmull’s extraordinary work in the digital animation industry that has brought him worldwide success. A pioneer in computer animation, Dr. Catmull continues to set new standards and is responsible for many of the advances made in today’s gaming, movie, television and computer graphics industries. I know that you will be intrigued by what he has to say.

Finally, I would like to recognize David Tumilowicz, publisher of Hawaii Business; Robin Campaniano, Shidler College of Business advisory council chair; Barbara Tanabe, tonight’s emcee, the Shidler Alumni Association’s officers and directors; and Jay Shidler, for their generous support of this year’s Hall of Honor Awards.

Over the years, this event has become a wonderful way for us to showcase our alumni, as well as generate needed funds to support students and alumni outreach programs. As always, I’m grateful for your support of our students and College.

Thank you for joining us, and we hope you have an enjoyable evening.

Sincerely,

Vance Roley

Aloha and congratulations to the 2012 Hall of Honor inductees!

Hawaii Business is honored to be a partner to this event and to the Shidler College of Business. The College is the preeminent organization responsible for training and delivering leaders to the Hawai’i community, and is perennially named among the top business schools in the nation.

This leadership is in high demand, and the work that goes on every day at the Shidler College impacts Hawai‘i’s economic and community potential. If the past is any guide—Robert Clarke, Richard Ha, Dee Jay Mailer, Jay Shidler, Robin Campaniano, David Heenan, Eddie Flores, Barry Taniguchi, and Dr. Virginia Pressler are all graduates of the College—our future will be bright.

On behalf of everyone at Hawaii Business magazine, we congratulate Hawai‘i’s own Alton Miyashiro and Susan Yamada for joining the ranks of the Hall of Honor inductees, and for the work that they have done to make Hawai’i a better, more prosperous place.

We also congratulate the very accomplished Earl Fry of Informatica Corporation and Ha Thu Thanh of Deloitte Vietnam on their awards this evening. Their inclusion in the Shidler College Hall of Honor exemplifies the national and international scope of influence that the College has achieved.

We also extend a very special mahalo to the staff of the College, who have worked so hard to create such a special event, and to Dr. Ed Catmull of Walt Disney & Pixar Animation Studios for traveling to be with us this evening.

Mahalo nui loa,

David Tumilowicz Publisher
