European Regulatory IssuesEuropean Regulatory IssuesTCAM is the Telecommunications Conformity
Assessment and Market Surveillance Committee of the European Commission (DG Enterprise).– Interpretation and guidance on the European
telecommunications equipment compliance procedures fall under the remit of the TCAM.
– In TCAM there is a discussion about whether wireless chargers should either fall under the scope of the RTTE Directive (as radio communication devices) or the EMC and Safety Directives.
– TCAM has requested a view from ETSI and this issue and their questions are at the core of a work item in TC ERM.

ObservationsObservations• The TC ERM Rapporteur group has observed
and is considering that there is :– a wide range of wireless power transfer (WPT) technology
proposals and a wide range of transfer powers.– no defined frequency range of operation.– a range of charging system architectures with respect to the
power transfer function and control and feedback.– an interpretation by some that sensing and control feedback is
considered as radio-communication.– ongoing industry standards activity for evolving WPT
technologies. Consideration in the ERM work has been limited to wireless charger devices employing inductive coupling techniques currently or soon to be available on the European market.
